Due to the age difference and Pavlik being undefeated champion regarded goddamn highly at the time I'd say Pavlik win (in such a fashion) was more of a shocker. On the other hand one can argue that Kelly wasn't fighting in his weight and later turned out not to be that much of a star...
I agree, I still consider tito a bloated WW during that time despite being a MW champ by beating the weakest MW champ during that time and I think Bhop was much older than tito during that time too. Well, Bhop is an antique when he fought pavlik. :yep
This isnt even Close the Tito fight was the far better win, Tito was considered a top 3 pfp guy. Some even had him number 1 at the time. Pavlik was rated high by some but not close to as highly regarded as Tito.
Trinidad had unified two titles at 154lbs. He hadn't fought as a welterweight for over two years when he met Hopkins. It's fair to say he was a natural 154lber but saying he was a welterweight is like saying Pacquaio is a lightweight! Then again you're not the brightest bulb in the box are you?
Trinidad had outgrown welterweight long before. He could've moved up to 154 a couple years before he did, in fact he fought there in 1997 and was chasing a bout with Terry Norris, but went back down to 147 to chase the big money fight with Oscar that finally came in 1999. He had all sorts of problem making 147. You can say he belonged at 154 when he faced Hopkins, but he was still good enough @ 160 to beat the **** out of a top 2-3 MW in Joppy.
