Horrible comments by B-Hopkins... All it does is bring out the racist fringe on both sides(see previous threads)to spew racist non-sense. I just hope that this does not overshadow what has been a brilliant career.
I think so, Bernards motives were to sell the fight. Joe stayed fairly cool up there. He is real laid back and he knows that Hops is just doing some promoting. This fight WILL happen next year, both fighters are gonna make a lot of money, we get answers about how their styles mesh, and it is great for boxing. Do I agree with the way he is going about this? No, but most would let Ex call them every name in the book if he is filling up their bank account.
"I know Hopkins is selling the fight. But he will look like a dumbass when Calzaghe beats him." I agree -- this kind of tactic can hurt his legacy if he takes it too far. But for $10,000,000 a legacy might be up for sale. In any event, this is a good fight between two good vets. I'll be watching. - Jason
Bull ****. That don't wash at all. The simple fact remains that if a white guy said what Hopkins said, he would be branded as a racist in the speed of light, and every hypocritical selfrighteous, self serving, bottom feeding liberal black "spokesman" like the disgusting "Rev." Al Sharpton and his league of clones would be yammering unceasingly for banishing the white offender to the netherworld, where he could never make a living, somewhat like they did to that poor idiot Imus. Making exuses for a racist like Hopkins, and I don't care if he said what he did for the purposes of promoting a fight, or whether he said it from the heart (which is what I believe) is irresponsible and hypocritical. A white guy would never be given that kind of slack. It just goes to show that the excuae makers hold blacks to a different, less demanding set of standards, like they can't be expected to behave correctly, or show any discipline or discretion in what they say or do. I don't buy that, because there are are quite a few classy boxers of all colors that don't resort to that kind of racial bull****.
bernard`s comments about "he will never lose to a white guy " have more relevance in america than to someone like calzaghe from europe. in america by and large it seems that white fighters have always been seen as inferior to black fighters and have an inferioty complex as a result. in the uk and european mainland this is not the case , and IMO if you put this into a calzaghe perspective the words mean nothing.
Look you guys are over reacting. Yes he shouldnt have said that but he might have said in the heat of the moment or simply to promote the fight. Its got everybody's attention hasnt it! Joe C. wasnt there by chance or because he cares about Hatton it was to promote his showdown with Hopkins and it worked. And even if he did mean it, big deal he doesnt want to lose to a White person. Blacks history certainly has something to do with...thats how he feels, doesnt make him racist.
Exactly. You know I am one of those people who can't stand the racist ****. But overall people come on, are you forgetting who we are talking about here? Hopkins by all measures is one step less insulting than Ricardo Mayorga. That much is true. Have you all forgotten how he disgraced the PR flag right in Trinidad's backyard? Remember all those angry people chasing his ass back to his jet? Well, this is no different here. Hopkins doing what Hopkins does, inciting publicity.
