Exclusive: B.J Flores Speaks About His Upcoming Fight With Danny Green - I Have 36 Minutes To Change My Life Forever! This content is protected By James Slater - Unbeaten cruiserweight contender B.J Flores sets off for Australia today, ahead of his coming out party against IBO cruiser champion Danny Green. For months now, the 31-year-old with the 24-0-1(15) pro record has anxiously waited for his big opportunity - even stating at one point how he was beyond frustrated at how his career had hit a slump of inactivity - and on November 17th, B.J gets his big opportunity. Having put in the work in the gym for the longest camp hes ever had, Flores is now brimming with confidence and is chomping at the bit in anticipation of getting into the ring with the teak-tough Green, 30-3(27). Very kindly granting me an interview hours before his long flight to Australia, B.J had the following things to say yesterday evening U.K time: James Slater: Hi, B.J, its great to speak with you ahead of the big fight with Green. I know youve been training hard, would you say youve had the best camp youve ever had? B.J. Flores: Id say the best camp yet because of how long its been. This is the longest time Ive had to get ready for a fight. Ive had eight weeks for the Green fight, and this is what happens when I get the proper notice for a fight - my body gets in the shape and form its in now. You can tell just by looking at me, my body looks totally different. Im walking around at 202/203-pounds now and Im right there. Im a 3-1 underdog in this fight, and Ive made sure Ive got down and worked hard every single day to make sure I give the performance, the fight of my life.. J.S: I read youve sparred around 70 rounds for the fight. Would you rather not say who youve sparred with for Green? B.J.F: Id rather not say actually. I know who hes sparred with for the fight (laughs). But Ive worked with three guys, and Ive rotated them. Ive trained for a fast-paced, highly-paced fight with lots of punches. I plan to be busy and exploit the size difference between us. I feel Danny Green will realise after a few rounds that he has made a mistake in taking this fight. J.S: As youve said in the past, Green has never weighed at more than the mid 180s. You figure youll climb into the ring at around 205-pounds or so and that youll be way stronger than him? B.J.F: Yeah, I wont be much more than 204 in the ring. Im at my best when Im light, say 205. It will help me be a better fighter. Ill be more aggressive, and Ill be able to maintain my stamina and my strength because of the length of the training camp Ive had. But I dont think Ill be way stronger than Green. But put it this way, he wont be able to bully me in there. Size is not the only component though, I have lots of amateur experience and I know how to box inside and outside. People seem to have a perception of how I fight, but they are going to be surprised in this fight. I will pose Green with lots of problems. This fight is a huge step up in class for him. Im not a Manny Siaca or a Paul Briggs! J.S: Youve said this fight is your coming out party. Do you wish in a way that the fight was being held at home, so more of your fans could see it? B.J.F: I do, but a lot of people will see it because it looks like we have a deal with ESPN to show the fight. Hes the champion and Im willing to go to his turf, to take the fight on his terms. I have no problems with him calling the shots; Im not in a position to be able to call the shots right now. But after Ive beaten Green, then Ill be able to call the shots and demand the big fights. The deal with ESPN is very close and I definitely want people to see this fight. Ring magazine have Green at number-two or three, and people will see what happens when I get in there with a top guy. This content is protected J.S: You look ripped and very strong physically. Do you feel you are hitting harder, in sparring, on the pads? B.J.F: I feel Im punching harder, primarily because of all the work I did before the actual camp for the fight. I was lifting weights, doing lots of sprint running - all explosive work. Thats made me a more explosive, harder puncher. The actual camp itself, Ive worked on the boxing side. You know, its not a strength contest. Ive focused on my game-plan on how to beat Green. J.S: Do you see a KO, or if the fight does go the distance are you concerned about the judges? Or do you feel youll make it so one-sided in your favour that theyll have to give you the win? B.J.F: I think it will be one-sided. I never predict a KO, especially against a guy who has never been stopped; Greens a very gritty, very tough guy with a great chin. Ill take it one round at a time. I plan to rough him up, be the stronger fighter. Hell realise that he cant bully me and then after that it will be a matter of how much of a beating he can take. If I do stop him I think it will be in the later rounds. J.S: You go to Australia tomorrow, plenty of time before the fight. What will you do when youre there, to keep ticking over and not getting stale, so to speak? B.J.F: Ill just relax with my team. Well do the press stuff, let the people know what Im there for. Ill just stay sharp. Ill work the pads; Jacob Chavez my trainer is one of the best pads men in the sport. I have my timing now, and basically I could do nothing out there before the fight if I wanted. But Ill make sure I keep on weight and Ill stay anxious for the fight. Right now, Im chomping at the bit. I have 36 minutes to completely change my life forever. This is the most important thing in my life so far, as well as being the single most exciting thing Ive ever looked forward to in my life. J.S: We both know this big chance has been a long time coming! Do you feel you are at your peak now at age 31? B.J.F: 31, yes. It has been a long time coming. Id so glad Danny Green stepped up and gave me this opportunity. This is my opportunity to put myself on the map and then demand the big names. And there are a lot of big names out there. J.S: You might get to fight Marco Huck after all! B.J.F: Well, he has to get past [Denis] Lebedev first! Thats a tough fight, a 50-50 fight in my opinion. So well have to see how Huck does in that fight. But, yeah, I want the big names like Huck, Steve Cunningham. But first things first! And I tell you, Ive never lost to a guy like Green before: a fighter who comes forward and is aggressive. Ive had trouble with taller guys who box, but not with any fighter with Greens style, where hell try and bully me. Like I say, hell find out pretty quickly that that wont work with me. J.S: I wish you the best of luck for the fight, B.J. Thanks for the interview, and all the other interviews youve given me in the past. B.J.F: Thank you, James. Ill make sure I give you a big interview when I get back with the belt! Article posted on 06.11.2010
Tend to agree....I guess it all depends on the "Dannyweight" imposed in the BJ Flores contract Lets hope he weighs in at 200lbs and gives Green a great fight I saw an interview saying Green has had average sparring....anybody know who against? I also saw Flores is talking rematch if he wins.
thanks for the read! flores sounds pumped and ready to go, he sure is doing a great job in selling this fight.
Danny's been sparring an American called Mike Wilson as well a few locals:good And whats with this Dannyweight crap? The fights at 200lbs as it has been since the day it was signed.
BJ said "I know who he's sparring and using them won't get him ready for me" I hope your right about the 200lbs mate.....BJ also said he will be 203 205 fight day.....for a guy his size if he was weighing 200lbs at the weigh in he would easy put on 10 lbs fight day....that makes me thing its at "Danny weight" 195lbs or 87kgs
actually Dannyweight is anywhere from 179 to 184.. 184 is the heaviest that he has fought for his "cruiserweight" world title. i would be very surprised if he does not have a bs catchweight in the contract for this as usual. if flores weighed in at 200 he would be much heavier than 205 come fight time....my guess is he will have the usual 184 limit...i guess we will know come weigh in time. if its 184 than he is a bigger fraud than your favourite fighter ash!!
i agree with you...what is this crap that he pulls? if you say you are the "cruiserweight" world champ, why the hell have you never fought above 184.25??!! its bs mate... a reason why the IBO title holds no value whatsoever on the world scene..... having said that i hope danny finally grows a pair and actually fights at the cruiserweight limit of 200 and notches up a nice win. i remain highly dubious as to whether it will be at 200, but hope to be proven wrong...
You'll notice that bj says that he doesnt want to come in above 205 because he feels thats his best weight:good
theres a thread cant remember which one.where someone asked B.J on his facebook page and he seemed very evasive with his answer when asked if the fight would be at the CW limit.
I dont see how Flores could lose 18 lbs from the pics I saw....202lbs and he looks lean....he could drop another 3lbs through 3 days hard training and another 7lbs water loss but thats about it IMO As I said I would be happy with 195lbs for Flores
Ok i'll try and get a answer tonight. If there is a catchweight i couldn't see it being less than 195 you only have to look at Flores to see how ripped he is to know that there aint much more coming off that frame of his,the guy looks like a greyhound. This fight might just be a ripper:deal
Heres the thread http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265049&page=6 Its not at CW, its at Dannyweight, Kegsy posted this on the thread, And then we have facebook entry on Flores page from yesterday i think it was or the day before? But it sounds like he has told his ESPN mate all about the agreed weight as you can see by the Dan Rafael chat session above. If the fight was at 200LB why cant he just confirm? He already stated in the open workout session its at 200LB but now i guess his had a read of the contract and signed he now knows its not at the 200LB limit and is Dannyweight. :think Can all titles allow their belt holders to impose such contract conditions or is this just the fcktard IBO? If the limit of Crusierweight is 200LB Flores should be allowed to come in at 200LB and not be forced to sign a contract that states he has to come in under the 200LB CW limit.
If it's at 200lbs then Flores and Green wld be shouting it from the rooftops..........seeing as there not makes one think it's at "Dannyweight".
