An example of this would be Mickey Ward vs Shea Neary. Neither fighter is world class, but despite both fighters lack of world class talent one of them is still largely outclassed. Maybe one of the fighter was over hyped, maybe one was simply trickier/more game/more experienced. But for whatever reason there was a very serious ass kicking on par with some of the best ass kickings out there In the Neary/Ward match Neary decided to go to war with Ward. Maybe he didn't know any other way to fight, maybe it was because they were fighting in Neary's backyard. For whatever reason he did so, he had the absolute **** beaten out of him. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Another good one is Tim Anderson vs ex football player Mark Gastineau. Gastineau was a roided up hype job with one of the biggest scumbags in boxing behind him. Several fighters that he fought admitted to taking dives, including ex-wrestler "Derrick Dukes". 60 Minutes did an entire piece of this. Tim Anderson weighed under 200 pounds often during his heavyweight exploits, and was actually a LHW at the beginning of his career. Despite being overweight (but still 45 pounds lighter then Gastineau) he beat the ever loving **** out of Mark. This dashed Gastineau's promoters hope of having his undefeated fighter gaining a match with Foreman. Foreman's team team had said "Amass a undefeated record of such and such and you'll have yourself a match". It would have ended in a multi-million dollar fight payday similar to what another ex-football player, the 90's Jimmy Ellis, managed. Anderson put an end to that, however. What others are there?
How about, just watched it tonight, Michael Gomez vs Alex Arther. I do think though that Neary gave a good account of himself in the aforementioned fight, but yeah the class of Ward did show through.
I think the problem on this thread is gonna be where do we draw the line. Who's A and who's B level and where one fighter is obviously A and the other B, if that makes sense, excuse me I've had a few bevvies.
Jimmy Young beating John L Gardener. Young was passed his best, but still made Hackney's finest look like an amateur.
I watched an Ajose Olusegun (spellcheck) fight about a year or so ago, a bit longer maybe. I watched it at the start of a night out in town in a busy bar, they had sky sports on in the corner. So there was no sound that you could make out. Without commentary, i thought Olusegun schooled this English guy and looked classy doing so. I was shocked the next day when i was hearing the decision was apparently 'bad', Olusegun won on points, he was very much worth it from what i saw.
Listening to General, sounds like John McDermott just beat the **** out of Tyson Fury was was robbed.
I was watching it. Was ridiculous how Jim Watt, commentating wanted to give almost every round to McDermott, even the ones Fury won, in my opinion any way. In some rounds, Fury took them with his jab, and Watt wanted to convince the viewers that McDermott won the rounds because he was pushing the action and the jabs he ate had nothing behind them. ****ing insane, closer fight than he made it out in my opinoin. McDermott can fight though, and i don't really like Fury at first seeing of him, but who knows, shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
Anyone here see Craig Payne/Po'uha? Payne came in a little lighter then he had been and absolutely schooled the undefeated, fairly well touted Samson. Impressive stuff
Fury vs McDermott, I felt was a clear but close decision win for McDermott. Not a schooling but a well executed game plan of pressure.
