True, but of course he was not warned for that. One thing about fighting in Germany, you are not allowed to punch Abraham in the body. I was unhappy about how the referee seemed to be looking for any chance to warn Jermain for low-blows.
Everyone just calls me a hater for criticizing the super six, but in my opinion the officiating in the first 3 fights left the tourney with little to no credibility.
Here's some work out video. Pavlik looks a little stiff, but he comments on that in the vid. http://www.vindy.com/videos/2009/dec/08/1102/
After the first 3 fights, I find it to be a let-down in all honesty. I don't really like that everyone has to fight each other. I think the tournament could be too long and drawn out, especially if it does not live up to expectation better in the next stage. If a guy is 0-2 and the other is 2-0, I don't know if we really need to see it. Maybe the fights will be better next stage. Being on Show-time, I feel the exposure is not what it could be if HBO had done it. It was a great idea, but remains to be seen if it will live up to expectations.
:happy love it!! yeah but it is good to hear that he went 8 today, going 10 on thursday and he said its all coming back to him way more easily than even he thought so this is all great news.
The first sparring partner was a little too effective with the left for my liking, but what I count as a punch landed and what Kelly counts seems to be two different things going from past experience.
i agree w/ the second paragraph jeff. this was a concern of mine from the outset. and for me, the worry isnt whether we need to see a guy who is 0-2 and a guy who is 2-0, but rather whether the 0-2 guy will even show up (mentally mind you). he'll have nothing really to fight for. then you run into maybe not even risking going 0-3 and pulling out and having new bodies come in. i'm not saying this is going to happen and i know these guys are all professionals so this shouldnt be a concern...but it does make you think.
Hey dont blame me, you were warned. Ive always believed its the fighter that makes the belt not the other way around and rankings are just ****. And when i said the sparring partners were prolly better than Espino, you were to quick to feel it was a knack on Pavlik and defend it. Not everything you read thats been said who isnt a Pavlik fan isnt an insult. Lots of guys had better sparring partners than the opponent themselves, so dont get to worked up about it.
Pavlik needs to work on not getting hit as much. I think he could still be aggressive without taking as many punches. Things have been a big let-down this year, but there were things I did see against Rubio I thought he was trying to improve on. I think Boo commented about this before. One was a little better balance, and the other which I said he really needed, was more of the lead-left hook.
One of the sparring partners was Billy Lyell. I don't know that Lyell is more skilled than Espino, but you can bet your house he's tougher.
who gives a crap about pavlik at this point? he ducked williams (thank you kelly for that though) and is fighting bums. I like pavlik, don't get me wrong, but please stop the bs and step up and fight a meaningful fight.
Talk about a redneck hoe down. I bet their was more inbreeding going on at this event than at a monster truck rally.
Which he did how? In three years he's faced two losing records and the husk of Terra Garcia, who's 1-4-1 in the last five years. Espino's even more of a joke opponent than Ornelas was for Hopkins.
Based on what KP said in the interview, he isn't optimistic about a fight happening with Williams. Does that mean he wouldn't agree to the 50/50 split that team Williams said would be the only thing they'd take?
