Does anyone recall what happened during that fight ? For the ones that remember watching it, did you think it was close and competitive ?

It was called a SPLIT DECISION as 2 judges had it 116-111 for Calzaghe and the 3rd had it also 116-111 but for Reid... Was the 3rd judge blind or was the fight simply an almost guaranteed win for Calzaghe before it began, being on a Frank Warren card ?

Reid won. And Joe doesnt do rematch`s unless he knows he can win.

Reid was Calzaghe's Roland LaStarza...you can bet your house on Reid losing in spectacular fashion if the two fought now. Mid-fight TKO for Joe.

A close fight that should have been rematched.

Anyone who has Reid winning didn't watch the fight. It makes me laugh, people see the SD and don't realise

A: Reid was crowd favorite and also the betting odd favorite for the fight
B: The only injustice in that fight was that it was an SD. Reid was no where near Calzaghe in that fight, it was one of the first fights that showed how Calzaghe can adapt and remove weapons from his opponent

Close fight, could have gone either way. Definitely should have been a rematch, Reid demonstrated that a good right hand will land on Calzaghe more often than not.

I scored it a draw if memory serves.

The fight was held in England. In case people don't know, Robin Reid is English, and was fighting about 150 miles from his hometown that night. He was also a well-established former champion at the time of the fight taking on a foreigner.

Do you really think the judges wanted to give the fight to Joe? More than likely, the guy who scored the fight for Reid was a person trying to help the native son out.

Calzaghe also broke his hand during the fight, but still won. Some people feel Calzaghe ruined Reid. I don't know if that's true or not, but I have heard it said.

Here's what Calzaghe said about the fight:

"He fought his best, I fought my worst and he still couldn't beat me but has mouthed off ever since about how he should have won the fight; Get over it."

I lost the link for the quote, but it was from a 2005 ESB article.

I watched this fight last week on nuts. I'd heard about it but not seen it. I had Joe winning the fight clearly by 2-3 rounds. I also though that i was being generous to Reid.
The only thing that Reid did was land a few good right hands. Granted that happened often. Joe also showed that he had a granite chin that night.
Reid was lazy and didnt do enough.
No way did he deserve the rematch, he had his chance and he was lazy

I can guarantee that none of you:

    A. Have actually seen the fight
    or
    B. Know how to score a fight
    or
    C. Saw that it was a SD on boxrec and decided to jump on

The fight between Reid and Calzaghe was about as close as Calzaghe vs Kessler. The only reason it was a SD was because it was in England and that Reid in a few rounds DID admittedly give Calzaghe trouble when he was landing the straight right.

I love the way the Joe haters say there should have been a rematch.

Joe beat the guy with a broken hand, and no it wasnt particularly close either. 116-111 to Joe is about right. What would he have done with 2 hands? As it was even reid thought he's lost saying Joe was too fast for him.

What are people hoping for in a rematch? Joe breaking both his hands? That's the only way Joe would lose.

Stats don't mean an awful lot really - but according to them Reid landed more shots then Calzage on the night.

Be quiet ya muppet. I was watching boxing when you was swimming around your dads scrotum. Reid won that fight.

Let me guess, you became a boxing fan when you saw Floyd Mayweather on MTV cribs last year ?

Go back to scoring Lewis vs Holyfield and De la Hoya vs Trinidad.
