I said "may have" there are cave paintings that were discovered five thousand years ago depicting two men fist fighting for sport and then I went on to state that The Romans and the Greeks made it official, who knows how long it existed in those countries before becoming an official sport.

The Greeks came before the Romans, so it were obviously Greeks.

Well, "may have" doesn't mean anything. Greeks created pygmachia themselves, or if they were influenced by any other culture, it were Minoans.

Actually its not markq....I'm not even that big a fan of Pacquiao's, sure I like him but I prefer the Eastern Europeans I think that much should be obvious. But of course because you live in the world of Pacquiao Mayweather 24/7 that' the only prism in which you can view this through. But the reality is I've been very consistent with my disdain for what I consider runners in the sport since I've been on this site. And I never miss an opportunity to criticize Rigondeaux, Mayweather, Lara, The Charlos, Monroe Jr., Andrade, Ward, Andre Dirrell, Vasquez, Bey the list is endless, because I do not find that style of boxing appealing and this thread is an Op-Ed of sorts written from my perspective, and I prefer the perfect mixture of offense and defense, not too much of either, Kovalev is both, Matthysse can be both, Golovkin is both etc etc. Not everything is about Floyd, I've been planning this article for awhile, I wrote an article of a similar nature last year in the summer.

I know and I know, but I wanted to leave them last because I had to go into the most detail about them, and most people know more about the Romans because of Spartacus and Gladiator so I figured I'd lead with them.

So what you're saying is we should reward David Tua heavily because he doesn't even bother being defensive and just relies on his unhuman ability to take punishment, but basically **** all over someone who is much better than him because they bothered to fight defensively?

    Cheers. :)

And btw, even the Gladiators didn't just go in there and kill each other. There were a lot of tactics etc involved, even "running". :)

But if they seen them fighting like Floyd and Pac the other day, they'd probably throw them to the lions. :smoke

Actually boxers punch air regularly throughout training camp. Some of the time with dumbells in their hand.

Th reason why a previous shoulder problem may flare up dramatiically during a fight is because the boxers are wearing gloves with much less padding than what they train with. During the competition when the boxers connects a solid punch especially if it happens to hit an elbow, hip or torso the shock felt thru the fist and arm is greater than anything they feel with their heavily padded training gloves on during camp.

Trust me, cheap ***gotry is alive and well in the video game community. But we don't raise statues to the people who exploit some small oversight to make our games unfun. Mostly, we just kick or ban them to make room for someone we actually want to play with.

Actually, the ref would have a hot iron of sorts to burn either gladiator who stalled or refused to fight.

Floyd and Lara are incredibly skilled fighters who have a tendency run depending on the threat level of their opponent, I've never really considered Guzman that much of a runner to start with. Spinks is dull as hell but not necessarily a runner. But Calderon is a runner.:deal

Skill is fine I have No problem with skill and I think you know by now my thoughts patterns are a little more complex than I let on in these threads at times. But using skill to overwhelm and beat your opponent down in close while being offensively minded but defensively responsible is the best style there is, it should be pleasing to both the purists and to the Neanderthals. Fighters like Morales, Barrera, Soto, I. Vazquez and JMMarquez who are skilled as hell but are willing to take one to land one but can still fight intelligently is preferable and where is the love from all of the supposed Sweet Science lovers, rarely do you hear them sing their praises. Lomachenko sums this up to perfection yet rarely does get the praise he deserves at least on this forum, Kovalev, Usyk, Beterbiev, Golovkin all possess a high level of skill that is showcased in their brilliant demolitions of their opponents yet all of that is lost by the simple act of a KO, which has seemingly become something you should be ashamed of in the eyes of many Mayweather and Rigondeaux fans. Because they are all seen as mindless plodders who are KO Machines with no skill whatsoever. And that exposes them as the fakes that they are, the fact that they cannot see how skilled Sergey and Gennady are should be an indication they may not know what the **** they're talking about. If they love the sweet science so much they'd be up Loma's so far it would take a coal miner to pull them out. But most are just Mayweather fanboys who occasionally spread the love when they see someone that resembles their idol. If he retired tomorrow most of them would jump ship to Kirkland he pulls the upset on Canelo.

Also if people like the Sweet Science so much then where's the Love for Il Maestro Herrera and Paulie....and Kell Brook and Thurman.:think

I agree with all of this, however, I would say Lara can at times do more running than boxing.

Yeah I hear what you're saying mate. However, it's not about wanting to watch two guys clobber each other til one keels over; it's about wanting to see a fight (...of the century, in last Saturday's case).

Personally, I love to watch guys who are skilled boxers, but who are also willing to fight for the win and go to war when they have to (an overly obvious example is Morales v barrera, or more recently, Marquez v Diaz-- that was an incredible fight, and was hardly "two guys swinging til one keeled over")......

I personally feel that a glorified sparring session where both guys pocket record-figure prize-money is a step too far. I genuinely didn't enjoy watching that. And if that means I dksab(sic) then so be it.
