Bad ass Edwin Valero

Yes Mosquera was a decent fighter . . . infact the only decent fighter who he had fought and who also knocked him down in the 3rd round.

I don't have anything against Valero . . . like I said in my original post I'm just not too solved on the guy yet. He needs to fight quality oppositions and prove himself . . . now this fight should be the start.

 

Not really , well it does limit the fights he can get but only because he wasn't able to fight in the US, this guy is not trying to avoid anybody

There are a lot of misconceptions about Valero on this board, yes he's not proven and he isn't a defensive boxer but his defence isn't terrible when he tries to he can adjust it, he is fast and with impressive power and a much better boxer than most people think.

You won't be able to tell how good he is by watching the clips on youtube etc. He's is just trying to take everyone out in the 1st round even in the fight with Mosquera he knocked him down twice on the 1st, after that he was able to adjust and box.

People thinking that he's just a brawler with some power and no skills or boxing ability are in for a surprise. On the other hand his chin is questionable (but he is the kind of fighter that can come back from a KD to win the fight) and his footwork is not that good.

If ever the Valero Barrios fight pushes through, I don't think La Hiena will be one who'll expose Valero for what he is... I still think Valero would knock him out in the later rounds, although Barrios would score at least 1 or 2 KDs in the process.

 

Barrios will beat Valero.

All these guys that seem knowledgable suddenly think Valero is good.

I'd like to know what they see in him that's so great? His power obviously isn't fantastic, you can see that with your own eyes. He clubs people down, he's not a puncher even in the vein of George Foreman (a clubber who has technique)

Valero has little or no technique. I know what they'll say 'well he's great in sparring, when he needs to he'll use his skill'. Bull****.

His lack of decent opposition is alarming as well for someone who's been on the scene as long as him.

I can't wait for him to be battered in quick and clinical fashion by someone half decent. Can't even see him beating the fringe contenders like Anthony Peterson, Edner Cherry and Katsidis.

If anyone thinks I'm an idiot, tell me why. Tell me what Valero has that makes him a destroyer or a firm favourite over these guys? Can I can tell you several reasons why he will be beaten.

I'm not a hater, I want him to succeed, but Gamboa gets a HUGE amount of stick on here as a 'K.O waiting to happen' even though he's fast, a very good boxer and has power. Valero knocks out a load of bums, but doesn't get criticised, he gets praised as the next coming of Wilfredo Gomez/Julian Jackson/Bob Foster.

Two words: Lamar Clarke.

 

Mostly because Doug Fischer was hyping him as the next great champ and he's a pretty knowledgeable, and because Valero really took it to Erik Morales in a sparring session and more than held his own. You can give those qualifications whatever weight you choose. Most of us have never seen Valero in a real fight because of his ban from US boxing.

Gamboa, on the other hand... I've seen him fight live on undercards at least twice and I'm not that impressed. He IS a KO waiting to happen.

Hypothetical matchup-Gamboa vs. Valero at 130. IMO Gamboa K.O 1 and I'm not saying that to be anal.

 

Gamboa gets rocked too easy, and any fighter that can deal with his handspeed will KTFO him without too much problem. Just imho.

 

Im not sure about this matchup, but its a lot more likely for Valero to K.O 1 gamboa than the other way around , i would favor Gamboa if it goes to the cards but it probably won't, considering both fighters have mediocre defense/chin and a lot of power, anyway Valero is not the flashy type of boxer he won't impress anyone with his footwork and quickness he will have to prove himself on this level but Gamboa has an even worse resume at this point and he gets knocked down almost every fight against fighters without Valero's power or even close.
