i spent almost 2 years training kickboxing and felt The training wasn’t good so I moved to boxing it is so much better but my coach is not open minded to modern boxing I prefer to be on my toes and constantly moving I am defensive but my coach dosnt like this he is trying to change my style I have tried what he has told me and I don’t like it I would see the point if this style was for me but he tells everyone to box like this and I don’t like it he says my footwork is bad and blames it on my kickboxing but my footwork isn’t sloppy or slow I do side step a lot but that works for me. I don’t get hit when I move the way I feel comfortable but when I try to box the way he is telling me I just feel stiff and slow and get hit a lot. I don’t get it I do really good when I box the way I like but he still moans at me.
Then maybe - and I know this is radical - try it his way and completely let go of your preferences and notions and be patient. Learning a new way doesn’t always yield immediate results.
Kick boxers and boxers distribute their weight differently on their legs. Is this part of the problem?
I like the gym I like at the lay out and there’s lots of pro boxers and amateur champions the thing is there not trained by the same coach that is training me I need to be there for a longer time so it is just waiting but meanwhile it is torture being messed about everything I do is wrong even when I’m doing good
Try a different gym. Worked for me. I had this one guy who supposedly went to Mexico to train. Thus he loves combinations. So all we did were combos. Learned 0 about how to set em up and as much about proper technique. Ended up hurting my bicep and knuckles due to bad form. And likely due to rushing through those combos. We threw ridiculous 6/7/8 punch combos without properly learning them.
