Fighting a non-descript fight tonight. Anyone think he can still do something in the division? If his last performance is anything to go by, he should probably just hang them up. Circa 2010 Dawson could still do something, but I reckon that guys long gone. Im guessing he wins a couple of fights and gets thrown in with someone like Beterbiev or even a prospect like Browne
I agree. He'll probably take a couple of fights with low level journeymen then get fed to a prospect.
He will win, his opponent is a professional punchbag. But Chad won't ever return to championship status. He made the worst decision in his career draining himself to fight Ward years ago, and has never recovered from it. Plus, today's LHW division is much stronger as in his glory days. He wouldn't have beaten those guys then, and he certainly won't beat them now.
^That's about the best he can hope for. Just keep taking easy fights and making money off his name, getting promoted as a former champion. Against the top guys in the division right now there's no hope.
I put that less on Chad and more on his team for screwing him. James Prince still had an "investment" in Chad at that point despite being Ward's official manager. The end result is that Chad not only drained himself to 168, but he took only 30% of the money to fight Andre in his back yard...despite just winning the LHW title over Hopkins and getting huge ratings in the rematch. Chad may not be Einstein, but that's the kind of deal that only gets accepted with something shady going on behind the scenes and a team not looking out for your interests. Honestly, I think Chad got disgruntled by the "business" of the sport and lost motivation when he realized he was fighting to pay everyone else, without much making it down to him.
Sad really. He looked spectacular when he was young, hungry, motivated with his speed , movement and combination punching.
Bute, Dirrell, Seals, Beterbiev, Bika, Fonfara, Stevenson, Rodriguez, Williams Jr. There are some good opportunities under the PBC banner.
Rock....that's some truth right there I saw chad selling his jaguar xf on autotrader a little while back.....I know he had some problems years ago with some guys that were backing him when he first started out.....he seems like the type that got taken for a good ride
Bute vs. Dawson, hasn't that been talked about for years? Bute seems to have more left but given his ups and downs the last few years it seems a fairer match-up than just tossing Chad in with, say, a Beterbiev.
