Examples of Poor Coaching/bad advice/game plan in your opinion or any weird corner work you've seen. IMHO Able Sanchez looked like a clown telling GGG in Canelo-GGG II "No combos, Load up on One shot" I was so happy I place a large amount of cash on underdog Canelo hearing that live. Another one was Teddy Atlas asking PEDvet "Do you believe in Magick"? Or the corny "WE ARE FIREMEN" I felt so bad for Bradley live. Bradley said something like "Yeah Coach" It just felt forced in my opinion & I don't think it lit a fire under Bradley but maybe who knows? I know in the heat of battle weird things can be said & some coaches & fighters have chemistry that might not be seen from the outside looking in. But what are some other examples of bad coaching in your opinion? Also Remember when a lower level fighter had a cellphone in his trunks & it fell out mid fight lol.. That counts as bad coaching imo
Mickey Duff talking to his fighter Lloyd Honeyghan who was exausted during his bout vs Starling after non-stop punching for no reason off Starling`s arms all night saying: Are you tired Lloyd as if why aren`t you carry on with dreadful tactics, you rough house Lloyd in the 80`s or something! Duff again to Mugabi during his brawl with Hagler, 'If you won`t listen to me listen to the father John'! He a bloody priest in the corner instead of a second, because Mugabi was religious! Might as well have had a plumber instead of Duff! RIP. Nigel Benn`s corner during his dreadful display against Watson when Benn was doing a Honeyghan off Watson`s arms and his corner`s response to a drained Benn was 'steam him'! A plumber or a priest could have given him better advice that that!
Don't know if this counts and I don't remember the fighter but, the fighter just wasn't listening to the corner and was losing. In between rounds the coach started in on his fighter. He said you Ain't gonna done nothing, you might as well quit and get a job at McDonalds.
That advice of abel was GOOD. The probability of being timed by the oponent increase A FREAKING LOT for every extra punch in your combination. Flurrying 4-5-6 hits combos on a master timer/counterpuncher like canelo is asking for being koed, 'please, mister canelo, could you knock the heck out of me?'. I dont know why you think abel's advice was bad. EDIT: and I hate abel, he's a troll, i'm not suspicious of being an abel fanboy.
Dangg that was pretty cruel haha. Trying to light a fire under his ass but burned him. Interesting never saw that one
Good point this is true. But Seemed GGG should've worked his jab more or thrown more Volume but you're right it was likely due to Supreme counterpunching Canelo. GGG usually threw more on the outside
It was many moons ago when ESPN had a series called Tuesday night fights. ESPN also had Friday night fights. Imagine 3 hours of boxing 2 nights a week? Oh the good ol days!
I have no fighter, because I'm no trainer, but I would never let my fighter to throw more than 3 punches in a row vs a counter puncher/timer, never, the 4th is extremelly risky. To ask gg for single punching maybe is excessive, but if abel saw canelo trying to time the second or third punch, then it makes totally sense. And I'm sure that at any point of the fight canelo was trying that. There are tons of beautiful kos done by timing the second punch. A classic one is the left cross timing the straight right when your oponent throw his 1-2. This timing makes beatiful kos. Actually, vs great timers like canelo or floyd, you fight cheating on them, ticking them. Like maidana vs floyd. Maidana fights like a caveman, but he was smart as F vs floyd. I mean, those fights are won by countering the counter of the counter counter. They are not "combination fights" but "I tricked you fights". Well, I'm tallking too much, maybe one single punch is too much, but if abel thought it was the right decision vs canelo, probably it was. More than 3 punches vs canelo is by default a mistake, though.
Yeah I miss it too no doubt. I was only around For FNF but I started watching FNF in 2006. I miss those cards.. Even the four rounders were entertaining
Nice no true that, agree sometimes the best punch is the punch not thrown no doubt. off but I love Marquez countering Baby Bull was beautiful. Scary when a fighter can take your punches away from you
I was watching Ray Oliveira vs Zack Padilla. 3,020 punches thrown. Ray Oliveira goes back to his corner and they tell him he's not punching enough.
I miss those days for sure. I'd roll up to my brothers house, get some food and brew and chill. Even bad fights were good.
Eubank Jnr has got to be up there, can’t even remember some of the crap his dad said to him but not using a trainer was stupid.
