Bad feelings about what happened to Big Nog tonight.

Anyone that chooses not to tap is an idiot. There is no shame tapping out and you gain nothing by not tapping and then getting a limb broken.

 

First off, really terrible to watch that happen. Was really sickened.

And what most are saying is true imo, in that Big Nog should have stuck to the GnP instead of going for the sub. It might come back to same thing he tried in the Couture fight, where he could have finished Couture a number of times with punches, but instead kept trying to go with subs (going for the prestige finish). That **** worked against Couture, in that he got the win. Not the kinda of thing to try with Frank Mir though, and he paid the price.

No one wants to see that happen to any fighter, but I'm not gonna blame Frank Mir. He did what he had to imo.

What I really thought was a bit off was Joe Rogan doing the post fight interview with Mir, praising Frank and talking about what a great win it was (all smiles and laughs), while Nog was lying in a heap directly behind them, being tended to by the medical people. Thought they maybe could have waited a while or done the interview outside the Octagon, given the circumstances.

Jui Jitsu is technique that involves using your opponents offensive movements and creating and countering using weight distribution and craft , include strikes and thats called MMA , Nogueirra was submitted because Mir bested him on the ground , **** all to do with his age or peak abilities and **** all to do with his current state , Mir submitted him by outwitting him with superior technique in that particular grappling exchange , which evidently was enough to snap his arm !!!!!! , heaven ****ing forbid a PRIME NOGUIERRA or a PRIME FEDOR be bested by the lowly Frank Mir hey !!!!!!!!!!!! , i mean Achilles himself would of lost to a (****ing cant stand this phrase) Prime FEDOR / NOG :twisted:

And secondly Mir is a ****ing absolute horse upper body strength wise , the reason Nogueirra's arm snapped is because Mir's base and weight transfer was absolutely perfect in the technique applied , and Nogueirra being the grappler and fighter he is , never tapped :deal , therefore his arm broke , **** all to do with ref , or Mir , its called an occupational hazard of fighting a man like Frank Mir , if you watch it again it was only after Nogueira rolled and Mir moved to a more secure lock / in a more stable position (which in itself is a BJJ technique , not just the finish ) was Nogueira deep in the **** , he barely had a chance to realise that yes IM ACTUALLY BEING SUBMITTED BY FRANK MIR HERE and his arm broke !!!!

exactly, maybe mir should have asked nog if he was holding his arm too tight,:verysad, the truth is it happened when nog tried to roll out of it and then mir rolled with it and when they rolled over it was sunk in deeper and nog really didn't have time to react it was snapped just like that.

 

Also Mir was in big trouble at the time so he would have known this was his only chance at victory so went for it with all the desperation you'd expect. Absolutely nothing to get mad at, it was just one of those things. Mir wasn't thinking 'I'll break his arm' he would have just instictivly executed the kimura with everything he had in order to win. The reason Nog's arm got broke is becasue he didn't tap.

 

Nog's arm was all sorts of bent up and he didn't plan on tapping... too much pride. He didn't tap until it was too late. Mir definitely did what he needed to do. Why risk Nog surviving and giving a chance to get back into the fight? It's Mir's job to lock in a brutal submission and it's Nog's job to either escape or tap out once he realizes that he can't. Mir did his job.

Tremendous comeback from Mir and the break was necessary. He was in the Octagon, he was fighting back from the brink of doom and he had reversed and locked one of the best grapplers in Heavyweight history.

It was just, and necessary. Bad times for Big Nog and for his fans (I'm one of 'em!) but sometimes the sport is brutal. I don't hold anything against Mir, and he gave a classy post-fight interview IMO.

I'm not bothered at all by either of these things. Just like I'm not bothered by Dodsons brutal hammerfists on Bedford or Hendos follow-up smash on Bisping. It happens.

 

Brazilians will never tap. It is part of their legacy and their pride. Nog might not fight again in professional MMA - but he will still go home a legend with his pride because he never tapped. It is bushido.

 

Watching Nog get maimed like that, and already knowing he isn't the sort of guy who's going to tap due to his background, seems like it would be a fair idea for refs to step in on some fights in order to avoid what surmounts to fighters being maimed.

Memories of the sakuraba vs. gracie kimura come to mind. I personally gain no enjoyment seeing guys get mangled with potentially career ending injuries.

 

He's also going home with his foot in his mouth, after the last fight where Mir ktfo nog, Nog get's on the mic and tosses the excuses out there disregarding mirs win. And the second fight sees mir the first man to submit the bjj legend and snap his arm on top of it.

I would say Nog got what he deserved.
