Didn't like his excuses in the post-fight interview where he blamed the performance on Omar's 'shell'. Fact of the matter is, Nonito is the bigger, stronger, and faster guy, and he fought Narvaez' fight. Not good. I think Ledderman made a great point in the 10th round saying that Nonito needed to step around and go to the body. Narvaez was open to bodyshots the entire fight but Nonito didn't throw them. Big mistake. From the jump, I felt Nonito was overly concerned about scoring a flashy KO, and that was his only gameplan. He should've been executing a gameplan to break Omar down with all the advantages he has over him but he was content to fight Omar's fight. That's not what great fighters are supposed to do. So, I think it's bull**** that Nonito is blaming this performance on Omar's so-called lack of wanting to fight. He should've forced the fight in different ways and not concede to what Omar wanted to do. Still a bit to learn for the young Donaire as far as I'm concerned.
Nonito looked pretty robotic offensively. He didn't create openings or throw some set-up punches to land a clean one. Basically danced around throwing rehearsed combinations and jabs. Not that he didn't deserve the victory though. He definitely did.
I do think he landed a lot of straight right hands to the body. but he needs to learn to create openings if his opponent doesn't give them to him.
He just needed to BOMB Narvaez that's what pacquiao would have done. This kid just likes to counter by nature.
were talking about an opponent who has never lost, as good as pac was he didn't knock out Clottey either. The truth of the matter is donaire is exciting and he comes to win...whether is opponent does or not is a different story.
nonito is a natural boxer/counterpuncher, why would he suddenly change because of one fight? He is not like pac who is known as an offensive machine(but still suck against clottey and mosley) Nonito is not a known aggressor, mayweather will probably look the same against the same kind of opponent
Finally a good thread about this fight. I agree with you man and don;t believe them. this wasn't a shutout, but it was clearly Donaire's win not true at all
He was just going against a very good boxer if not for the size advantage Donair would have been in a lot more trouble.
Not long ago, Martinez took much criticism for a so called underwhelming performance against Barker whom fought with a high guard as well. Though he managed to score a late stoppage (albeit from a quite irregular damaging punch) the pundits were certainly unmerciful in their assessment of Maravilla's "lackadaisical" effort in cracking Barker's defense. Point is, even the elite of the elite level boxers sometimes have their troubles with particular styles - and the skill sets of the Narveaz' and Barker's of this game are prevalent examples of such styles.
O.k., question time: Does this performance change your opinion at all about about Donaire's chances against guys like Mares and Agbeko?
