Does the away fighter often get booed (win or lose) at arena fights attracting casual sports fans? Yes.

Should Hatton have given props to Senchenko for coming to Manchester and beating him? Yes.

Was Hatton's whole 'one of the lads', ego and talking about himself in the third person stuff transparent and annoying towards the end of his career? Yes.

Are these kind of behaviours unique to Ricky Hatton? No.

Are they worthy of 5+ years of obsessive whiney, moaning and irration hatred from one person? No.

I'm surprised so many people were shocked by the result.

Fighters get booed for beating a home town fighter in every country. Why is Hatton being held up as an exception here? In fact, why is Hatton being blamed for the way his fans react? It's got nothing to do with him. Was Minter blamed for his fans being thugs to Hagler? No, and rightly so. Why anyone would blame the fighter for the fans reaction is beyond me. It's got **** all to do with them.

Also, what is Hatton meant to say about his opponent? He beat a shot fighter, and it wasn't even a fight he was winning. Hatton was ahead on the cards, he was clearly winning the 9th round, so it's hardly like he was outboxed or anything. I can't think of much to credit Senchenko about. He landed a good body shot but looked shite for most of the fight. I'd congratulate him on winning but lets be honest here, he beat a shot fighter who hadn't been in the ring for over 3 years, was rusty, had no stamina and his heart wasn't there. Not exactly a great win.

    Literally every weekend.

This wasn't exactly Minter fans bottling Marvin Hagler, either.

Apparently Ricky Hatton was favoured to beat the guy, so the guy deserves credit.

    Yeah, exactly.

You also have to consider that Hatton's fans aren't all boxing fans. They're your typical football crowd, who boo an opposition player when he gets a broken leg and sing songs about fans dying. They're not exactly a classy bunch.

Why the fighter would get blamed for having disrespectful fans is beyond me though.

For me it was one of those fights (like Vitali-Peter) which was all about what Hatton had left - if it was enough he would win if it wasn't he would lose. Np way to know until you know.

I picked Hatton but bet on Senchenko on account of the prohibitive odds.

That's not how I remember it.
People did point the finger at Minter , because he'd said "I won't let a black man take my title" a couple of days before the fight and that had made headlines.
A large NF hooligan contingent turned up to the fight, and trouble ensued.
That was exactly how many interpreted events anyway.

I thought about betting on Senchenko but I assumed the odds would be too close to make it worthwhile.

I figured Hatton would struggle to a points win, or get beaten up.

He was mate. Reckon the statement 'no black mans going to take my title' in the lead up to the fight had a little bit to do with it. Differentdays then though.
Hatton could of maybe congratulated Schenchenko but the fight was never about him. It was about Ricky anwering his demons, and thankfully he has and can live the rest of his days without the 'what ifs'

I'm not directly blaming Hatton for his fans lack of class/decency, but his own press conference was equally cringe-worthy. Not a mention for Shenckenko, instead harped on for ages about himself as usual. The usual recent bollocks about his demons etc. He needs to dry his eyes and stop self-obsessing.

And it simply isn't true to say home crowds boo away fighters, at any point. I've been to cards in many Asian countries where an away guys wins and is applauded and there's no booing. Remember, these are the same Hatton nuthuggers who booed through the American national anthem, they're just idiots.

Well, there's always going to be "what if i hadn't hit the booze between every fight and nailed all that coke after Pacquiao laid me out" but I get what you mean.

He got blamed for those comments, yeah, but I don't think he was blamed for the violence from the fans. I could be wrong, I've only read boxing magazines from the time, so maybe the newspapers stuck the blame on him. If that's the case, I was wrong :good

I don't know if this is born of your bizarre...well, obsession with Hatton or just plain ignorance, but for the record, the kind of hellish, black depression that this guy is dealing with isn't the type of thing you can "dry your eyes" and 'just get over', or whatever, even I know that.

If he genuinely didn't even mention the other fighter in the conference (and he gave him some passing credit in the postfight interview) then that's ****, but it's also perfectly understandable as well as the harshest possible indictment of the press who were asking him questions. Presumably only about himself.
