PPV needs to die. Paying sometimes over $100 to watch a card on TV is ridiculous and greedy. Just put it on HBO, Showtime or **** it even ESPN, Spike, Fox, CBS, whatever.

People like MVC are so busy sucking off boxers for their PPV numbers. It's weird and strange.

More boxing and less payment is good.

I never understood why PPV model works in the USA in the first place. It would never work here in Europe. People wouldn't pay that much money even if it's Champions League or FIFA Football World Cup final in question

Klitschko earned a ton of money without PPVs

I think PPV model did a lot of harm to boxing. Boxing should be the people's sport, it's the sport of poor people after all.

In Europe it's so hard to follow boxing (other than European based fighters), you have to stay up until like 4, 5 AM to watch some ****ty stream. On the other hand elite level football is easily accessible and everyone can watch the Champions League, Premier League, Bundesliga etc. I'm sure that if boxing was cheaper to watch more random casual fans would tune in which would greatly increase the popularity of the sport and in the end increase profits for everyone too. Boxing doesn't profit from PPVs at all

I agree with the OP. That simple.

But I'm addicted to boxing, and pay regardless. *shrug*

What I don't like is how someone like Prince Chump Martin, flat of foot and gold of tooth, is $6m richer for throwing 0 punches and falling down twice. All those casuals should demand a refund from Sky and Hearn.

It's lead us down the road to Mayweather Berto and Canelo Khan. Those fights wouldn't be possible without pay per view incentives. What a great time we live in.

    Ahh, scarecrow is back.:hi:

That's what Haymon has been trying to do all along but people want to hate the man on every level. Maybe at first he put on some not so great fights but we had some FOTY slobber knockers on PBC.

Its easy to dislike Haymon. He isn't transparent. Runs his company out of a cave. A lot of people think because of his lack of transparency he has something to hide. He refuses interviews. I mean would releasing a statement now and then hurt?? Also I know he gets his fighters nice large purses. But Haymon gets a percentage of it. So its also in his best interest that he gets his fighters large purses. But some folks act like Haymon is some Santa Claus guy who just likes to hand out millions out of his own pocket!

Boxing, in its current format, is bad with the PPV format - as such I'd agree and prefer there wasn't any.

But if it was done properly, boxing could have two or 3 massive PPV events every year with the rest on normal TV. This would only work under something like the UFC model though.

For example, in each of those PPV events, every fight should be the best in the division against the second best in the division. A 4 or 5 fight card, headlined by the best.

Right now it seems very boxer-centric, as opposed to even fight-centric - when the entire thing should revolve around the card. Each fight should be something you don't see on regular TV from week-to-week.

As I say, it's probably not possible with boxing though.

Well the latter is being public and always having people chop up your words and interview videos to fit their agenda. Look at all the **** Don King got, how about Bob Arum constant contradicting himself in public, now Tom Loeffler is getting the "media promoter" treatment and has media critics bringing up **** he said back when he was building up Golovkin.

Operating in the shadows don't look so bad when you see all that **** happening.

Yes I see you point and its valid. Were not in his shoes. If he feels like that's the best way to do things that's fine. Plus Sam Watson is a good guy it seems and a lot of people think he is Haymon.:D

I really think PPV should die, and it seems to go the way of the Dodo is the US eventually.
But we're seeing more and more PPV coming up in the UK instead. Even domestic scráp-ups for minor titles end up on PPV over there nowadays, which is a pretty damn bad development.

Ppv isn't done in Japan....tv figures for big fights are regularly in the millions...TV covers smaller fights on subscription or tape delay (not a fan of tape delay but it's better than nothing) and the sport there is flourishing

PPV is generally a better viewing experience than Closed Circuit. The biggest fights pre-PPV were not on free TV, they were on Closed Circuit.

I don't mind the biggest fights being on PPV since I'd rather see it on PPV than CC. The problem I have with PPV is often the quality (and of course the price). Some ****py matchups, bad mismatches, headline PPV events with poor undercards. Some of that has to do with greed but it brings up another issue in boxing, the lack of sponsors.
