I like Bute and rate him highly but is everyone forgetting
    - hes coming off a loss,
    - had no SMW win in over 4 years,
    - only had 3 bouts in over 3 years,
    - is 2-3-0 in his last 5 bouts,
    - is 36 years of age which is often a sort of time where many top SMWs are either retired or close to retiring

It seemed to take Bute a long time to get over the Froch loss and we dont know how he may be after the Degale loss even though he put in a good performance.
That may have taken more out of him than we know. He didnt look great against Pascal (I know, LHW) who I feel prime Bute would have beaten at SMW

If you look at it on paper, yes it could be considered a cherry pick, however if you use common sense and are objective, I think you would consider it as a decent defense. But looked as good as he has in years against DeGale.

You seem to be forgetting Bute looked like a fighter reborn against DeGale and that match has been argued a draw, at best DeGale won it 8-4 or 7-5, and DeGale is a few levels above Badou Jack.

I like Degale and yes it was some years ago, but Degale fought a close fight with Groves as did Jack.
I thought Degale beat Bute and it was a good battle but I cant forget how Bute didnt seem himself after the Froch loss for some time and wonder if the Degale fight will have taken something out of Bute even if he fought a good fight with Degale.

Doubtful if anything I think he may have gained something, especially in the confidence department which is what really matters, as far as the DeGale-Jack comparison based on their common opponent, the Groves that Jack fought, is still dealing with the fallout of being Cobra'd himself.:yep

    Fair enough.
I think George has struggled since the first Froch fight, which was a fight I favoured Groves to win providing he didnt get caught

Paul Smith would be a cherrypick

Jack will have a tougher fight vs Bute than he'd have against pot-head Chavez
