The only times he ever has balance issues is when he is backing up while defending himself. He tends to cross his feet when doing so. Hes got exceptional balance, otherwise he would not be able to throw such smooth combinations. Cruiserweight might be shite, but Makabu is one of the finest combination punchers in the division.
It's a massively overrated resume if you look closer. He's got names but never beat them in their primes or at their best. For instance, Groves was still young but not the fighter he was in the Froch fights. He was training with a hippy who tried to make him a volume puncher and clearly needed time out after the Froch fights. Groves barely lost that fight on Jack's home promotion. Degale was also past prime at the time Jack got a draw with him. Cleverly was completely gone. Absolutely GONE by that point. Bute was way past it. Stevenson was past it. He lost to an old Pascal. It's not like one or two were past it, literally all these names were not in their prime when Jack fought them. It's actually not too far from Eubank Jr's resume as far as beating ex-champions who were nowhere near their best.
Jack did his damn thing. He's always been a favorite of mine and I was happy to see him pick up a strap at CW.
I don't see it as all that special to be honest what's so great about it? Makabu isn't very good & hes been inactive.. Bellew spanked him years ago.. lost 3 in a row at LHW.. Pascal, Browne & Stevenson.. Browne battered him in fact.. & hes B level at best.. got knocked out by Derek Edwards couldn't beat DeGale and almost lost to Groves.. he gives a lot of people a good fight but generally fails to get it over the finish line.. most of his best wins were close.. Direll , Brand, Periban, Groves etc.. he's a good fighter but I don't think he's close to Hall of Fame worthy that is absolute nonsense.. 3 weight champion looks fine on paper but when you dig a bit deeper..
The man did his thing, credit where credit is due. Bagged another strap whilst at that stage most fighters are finished.
Everyone doesn't have to be the single best fighter on the planet ever for fans to like them. We like Badou Jack. I started this thread because I enjoyed watching him fight for the better part of the last decade, and it looked for all the world that his career would be coming to an end over the weekend. And I just wanted to say that I liked watching him before he "went away." Like many, I thought he was overhyped and would vanish after getting stopped in one round early on. And many of us are surprised how his career has turned out. It's been fun to watch. In terms of likeability, to me, he's similar to a Yaqui Lopez, except Jack won some titles. People liked Yaqui. He was in some memorable fights. Nobody said he was the best ever. We just liked him. Nobody is saying Jack beat everyone at their prime. Nobody is saying he's the best ever. He won some. He lost some. But we watched and rooted for him. He gave us some great nights of boxing. And, when we expected him to lose this weekend, and we hoped he wouldn't get embarrassed, he won another title. And we're HAPPY for him. Can't it just be that simple?
Same weird energy some people respond with upon hearing that someone's a fan of a role player in the NBA. "He ain't LeBron!" ...yeah? So?
