He will do well in boxing. Today the heavyweight division is full of pussies. He's a big boy with great power. He will be KOing people left and right.
Do you understand how problematic it is to have spent 10 to 15 years as a Muay Thai fighter and then switch over to traditional boxing? It's not easy. Sure a few have done it but the later they leave it in their career the tougher it becomes especially at a high level. Matt Skelton comes to mind as a late convert I think the best he could manage was British Champ. I realise Badr is a better clsss of K1 fighter than Skelton, however I feel he's left it very late unless he had a grounding in boxing previous to Muay Thai which isn't his case. from a technical point of view his hands were his weakest point along with using hands to gaurd to the head although I agree he does have real power in his mitts. His techique was always better with his feet and knees. He really swings with hooks which leaves his chin in the air, and his gaurd is non exsistant. It'll take along time to learn him those basic boxing skills of Brother Nazeem. The guys that cross over well did so while they were still pretty fresh, the K brothers being the best example. There are exceptions who crossed over late but it was no later than being in their prime like a few Thai fighters such as Samart and the American Troy Dorsey. What is he 30? In Muay Thai heavyweights age quicker than the lower weights because of height and knees, they seem to pick up more problematic injuries quicker. It's a small guys sport, very few big guys have the coordination and athleticism to effectivly fight Muay Thai that's why K1 was such a big deal in the early days as guys like Hoost, Hari, Hug etc were showcased and got the big bucks. Being a Muay Thai guy I'd love for him to do well, I really really would but I think he's left it too late and it'll be tough as I said above he has balance and footwork issues combined with a lack of defense that'll leave him waving his chin in the air.
First K1 is not Muay Thai! K-1 combines stand up techniques from Muay Thai, Karate, Taekwondo, Savate, San Shou, kickboxing, western-style boxing, and other martial arts. Second Dutch Kickboxing style uses the hands more than traditional Muay Thai. Third Badr Hari is quite good with his hands and is quite fast for a Heavyweight. There have been kickboxers and boxers who went back and forth between these disciplines and do quite good. Even Tyrone Spong who sparred with a lot of boxers said he can hang with them quite well. He has the timing, he has the athleticism, he has the reach, you don't need to be Floyd Mayweather to KO people out. The best example is Klitschko brothers. Alexander Ustinov started professional boxing at the age of 30 after 7 years of K1 and now he's 24-0. He will probably get a title shot soon.
I hope he can be succesful in boxing. He is young, has the dedication and got pretty much the best trainer he could get
