A mixture of all striking arts. The fact it's dominated by Muay Thai is niether here nor there.

Anyway, Badr Hari is a Muay Thai boxer, Kickboxer and now Western Styled Boxer, hence a mixed martial artist (MMA fighter).

Nah it isnt, its kickboxing. Doesnt involve ground work so it can not possibly be called MMA.

Not really. Two Muay Thai fighters fighting in Lumpinee stadium in Bangkok are not having a mixed martial arts fight, they're having a pure MT bout as a Russian and a U.S. wrestler wrestling in the Olympics are having a pure wrestling bout and when Sugar Ray and Hearns fight having a pure Boxing match. etc.

To me it becomes Mixed Martial Arts when a boxer is fighting a Karate guy, or a Sambo parctioner is fighting a BJJ guy, or an MT guy is fighting a WingChun fighter etc etc.

You clearly forget why Mr Ishi set up K1 in the first place. Japan was already awash with International kickboxing, basically karate styled kicks with western styled boxing combos over many boring rounds. Ishi set up K1 as the 1st offical stage to showcase different exciting striking martial arts against each other at the top level without limiting too many rules that would discrimnate too much against one particular srtiking style. The K in K1 stands for Kakutogi The Japanese word that roughly translates as Fighting Sports.

The idea that you would have top Karate guys, Taekwondo guys, Kickboxing guys, Kung Fu guys all competeing underneath a unifed set of rules different to Kickboxing was unique and excitng at the time and was the secret of it's success. Japan has a history of martial arts experimantaion. The fact K-1 has largly turned into a kickboxing MT fusion is due to the dominace of thse two stlyles over the last 20 years in stand up martial arts on the full contact arena.
