Ernie Shavers is a lock for the No. 1 spot on my "All Time Hardest Punching Punchers of All Time" list, but after that, things become less certain. I can't decide who should be No. 2, but I've narrowed it down to three fighters. Max Baer, David Tua and George Foreman. Note that I didn't say "best puncher" just "hardest puncher". For pure one punch concussive power who should place number two out of these three fighters named? Vote now! This I Command!
Foreman ------- Tua--Baer Foreman's another level I think in terms of pure power. Tua was left-hooking more than enough and Lewis was fine. I don't think he could have taken that many clean punches from Foreman.
My heart says Tua...his pure punching power is pretty amazing. At the end of the day its damn near impossible to split the guys at the top of these lists..because you cant really measure it definitively.
Tua actually only chinned him like twice in the fight and he wasnt set properly , doing his leaping across the ring being made to look silly thing. Tua has 1-punched (or as near as) a lot of good heavyweights. Im gonna look up some more Baer on youtube, quite the beastly puncher underneath all the dapper dan image.
Choi died after winning a fight against an average puncher...Ottke put a dude in hospital for days. I dont think the fact Baer killed a guy is all that significant...That tragedy can also be attributed to poor reffing and matchmaking..considering Im pretty sure the bloke he beat was a light heavy whom he outweighed by a decent amount. These things just sometimes happened.
all where punchers but different types. Shame with Baer that he did not always take this boxing business seriously (the training) Everyone knows Max killed Frankie Campbell but he also was the one that caused the hemorrhage in Ernie Shaffs brain, Shaff died in his next fight with Primo. Baer was a heavy puncher and when he was in condition and fought with a purpose, a great fighter but erratic in training and ring demeanor.
IMO your question is false in 2 ways. 1. You're stating Shavers as the hardest puncher ever as if its definate. I won't go any further with that one. 2. Assuming you're refering to the 70s Foreman among the bunch, then I would say that none of the above generated the second most power.
Schaff had 3 fights between losing to Baer and being killed by Carnera (W2 by KO L1 Pts), 6 months elapsed between the Baer fight and the Carnera one, its a common misconception that Schaff died in his next fight after Baer
Tua was a bigger puncher on a one shot basis over Foreman ... Foreman was a much better fighter ... Baer, to me, is a level below on power ...
Its fantastic to See Max up there. Max had one of the Biggest Right hands i have ever seen. But when it comes to Both Hands, Tua has the Left Hook and Baer had the right hand. Foreman had Both Left and Right, and Both were incredibly Powerful. Foreman hits harder then Tua and Baer IMO
Foreman as has been mentioned had the two handed power, but in terms of pure one punch knock out power i feel that David Tua takes this. Foreman was bigger and was able to land more effectively but in that vast majority of cases if Tua lands flush with that left hook the fight is over.
Tua is the most devastating puncher, I personally feel though a left hook is more concussive even if it isnt as powerful, so make of that what you will.
