Max baer is sent back to Sept 1923 to challenge the ferocious Jack dempsey.. How does max do against the mauler? Both hard hitting, would this fight rival that of the Firpo bout? This is the baer of the Carnera fight. I have a feeling this one won't be a decision bout..
My guess is Max would go into meltdown as he did against Louis.The difference being he would have no Dempsey to propel him into his corner as he did against The Brown Bomber.
I think that Dempsey could "louis" Baer if he fought smart. If he tried to brawl Baer as he brawled Firpo, he could find himself in trouble.
Dempsey would never let Baer get set. Too much pressure. Bad matchup for Max. Baers corner stops it after the 6th
Max would get clobbered....even a near 40 year old Dempsey was all over him...I've seen the full exhibition ...but yes if you get too careless things will happen but it would be another ko for JD IMO
I was just thinking this about an hour ago then I found it on here! I see Baer doing better than Firpo did he would take the 10 count against Dempsey no doubt. Takes no more than 3 rds for Dempsey to seek and destroy imo.
Firpo's style makes Baer look like Napoles. Dempsey allowed Firpo to get set for his wild, unbalanced throws numerous times in their bout. If we are assuming this is the same Dempsey who fought Firpo, with the same mindset and preparation, I am shading towards Baer.
Yes it's the exact same dempsey as the Firpo bout. Same ring, ref. Just max in there instead of the bull.
That's why I threw these two together. Two hard hitting exciting heavy s together. Similar eras so non of this size difference debates. Just two strong guys locking horns.
But he let Firpo get set. If Baer punches Dempsey through the ropes, i really cant see him going on to win this one. Baer by KO, quite early. The rematch or a different version of Dempsey might be a different story.
