Two guys who were a little eccentric but who wins?
Bear who smashed Carnera or Berbick who shocked pinklon Thomas ?

Berbick made it the distance against Holmes, Thomas, prime Page and James Douglas. I don´t see Baer who fought in 190lb era in any comparable power class than Tyson and therefore not stopping Berbick.
For me Berbick showed enough vs Thomas to win this on points.

There is the weight advantage and Berbick s Chin was pretty solid. He wasn't a bad hitter but I'd give that to Max. If Berbick shows up like he did against Thomas then Max is in for a long night.

Every one of your comments I have seen thus far -
    every
    single
    one
-can be reduced entirely, without the slightest loss of substance, subtlety or nuance, to:
    "190 pounds".

You sir, are a dribbling buffoon.

And for the thousands of braindead threads here on B24, I think I should it repeat once more: There are weight classes for a reason, everybody keeps them in mind when comparing modern athletes. Everywhere.....beside panchromatic fantasy land.

Max could hit very hard genuine one punch power but was erratic ! Trev was a big strong bloke who was tough and completely barmy ! Would max be focused enough to win with his hard shots or would Berbick brawl his way to victory? Tough call.

This is one fight I can see a motivated Baer taking. If motivated. If not it’s an ugly hug a thon

What if Berbeck is just as motivated as Baer?

If max came to destroy then berbick doesnt have the tools to stop him. Berbick is a durable guy, but he is far more likely to be knocked out here than Baer would be.

I think Baer would have knocked Berbick out. Although wild, I think Baer was big & strong enough with enough power to connect on Berbick who was not that hard to hit and whose chin wasn't bomb-proof (Mercado anyone?). Berbick was awkward too, I see this as being quite an ugly fight.

I think Berbick is over-rated by some on here. I always thought of him as very strong, not particularly refined, a decent puncher but not elite power; somewhat temperamental and erratic (ST Gordon fight). His breakthrough win was the Tate fight and I think that was a case of being in the right place at the right time; I don't think Trevor would have beaten the pre-Weaver Tate.

I was surprised when Berbick beat Pinklon Thomas - I thought Thomas at his best would have convincingly beaten Berbick; I have no knowledge on this but I've always wondered if Thomas had slipped into some of his "bad habits" by the time he fought Berbick? Does anybody here know if this is the case?

Maybe I am being harsh on Berbick and under-rating him, but these are my recollections of him.

I think Berbick was a muscular swarmer and if Baer teed off and clocked him a few times he could take him out .. Max did have that power .. again, only a highly motivated or pissed Baer .. if not Berbick would likely outwork him ..
