Ruddock had bricks for hands a fast explosive left hook and right upper cut. If he used his jab he was that more effective barring vs Tyson. Amateur pedigree with solid fundamentals , resume itself is shallow but so would anyone's fighting Tyson twice at that time. He has wins over Lewis in the ams and was kicked out of Holmes camp BC he was too competitive. Had he fought Holyfield it may have been different but Tyson was the only guy that volunteered to fight him. There's not much Baer could do here except swing for the fence which was his style anyway. The skills are night and day. Ruddock would have to suffer another asthma situation to lose this one.
Ruddock seems more technically skilled to me, I don't know what anyone else is looking at. And judging from his fights with Tyson and Bone Crusher Smith, he had a decent chin. It wasn't until after Tyson that he couldn't take a hard punch as well. But I'd lean towards prime Ruddock over Max Baer. Baer may have dropped Ruddock in a similar manner that BoneCrusher did, but I'd still lean towards Ruddock.
I like the right hand of Max to come over the wide extremely telegraphed left hook of Ruddocks. He'll get hit clean just like the Lewis fight from a punch he never see's.
It turns in to a crowd pleasing brawl ,both men hitting the Deck . Some point round about the sixth , Ruddock catches Maxie with his smash.. Baer goes down like a ton of bricks ..he rise's at 9but the ref waves itover.
If ruddock tries to brawl with baer, he' getting knocked out, max base was a juggernaut, ruddock was fast and powerful and skillfully but he has to fight smart to beat Baer and I think ruddock often preferred for to tie slugging
A good scrap. Baer KO about round 8 methinks. No analysis. I've had a beer, and that's just what methinks. Would definitely love to see this one, though.
