It was a well known bad decision as was Schmeling Sharkey 2. Schmeling was a dominant leading contender for over a decade. At one time considered an ATG.
No. Well known due to 80 years of respected writers letting the boxing public know it was a bad decision.
This was a huge event. 70 boxers were on the card culminating with this top hwt bout. This was not some secret fight card no one attended. No doubt Uzcudun left the ring a bloody mess and the data indicates it was a very questionable decision. Bottom line this adds further credibility to Schmelings dominance over the hwt scene the ten years prior to his loss to Louis in 1938.
I don't care how many boxers were on the card. Neither AP or UP even cared, both only had short reports sent over the ocean. But I highly doubt these supposed "respected writers" attended that bout, or studied clippings from local newspapers. So using them to back up your opinion has zero worth.
Anybody here knows Spanish? Several next-day local or semi-local reports: http://hemerotecadigital.bne.es/res...d=05&d=14&t=+creation&l=600&l=700&s=0&lang=en
Schmeling also handled Uzcudun in a similar manner in two other bouts cutting him to ribbons. Just the results we have so far point to a bad decision. That is if you want to ignore the obvious.
Unless you know Spanish and read the local reports I posted, and they say it was a bad decision, your opinion is meaningless.
PUBLIC PROTEST THE DECISION OF "MATCH ". Uzcudun remarkably resilient. Bloody Most everything else came out as jibberish via online translation.
No it's not. I have an educated opinion. I've read about this bout for 40 years. It is YOU who are jumping to the erroneous conclusion that information I've read for 40 years is wrong without any evidence to the contrary.
I doubt you have seen a single local report of this bout in your 40 years of studying boxing, until I just posted the link above. So your opinion about this particular bout is not educated by any means.
Again you make things up as you go. I know far more than a 20 something Russian who has not even lived though the Ali era. The data from over 40 years AND the info posted recently tell a tale of a bad decision. It's called correlation.
Let's all ignore this report from IP as it was all made up: MAX SCHMELING, UZCUDUN DRAW Sports Writers Credit ExChamp With Victory, Judges Decide Even Barcelona, Spain, May IS (IP) Max Schmellng, former world's heavyweight champion, pounded the veteran basque, Paulino Uzcudun, about the ring in Momtjuich stadium for 12 rounds today, cut him severely about the face and emerged with nothing better than a draw decision. Sports writers credited Schmeling with at least eight rounds, though the Teuton had easily outboxed Paulino all the way and felt the judges had been Influenced by the Basque's courageous fight against a superior foe. 40,000 Sec Fight The crowd of 40,000 fans who had come to see 180 rounds of boxing ln the first three-ring boxing circus in history had no fault to find with the decision, however. They loosed a wild cheer when the result was announced. Repeating history, Joe Jacobs, the German's manager, shouted Schmellng was "robbed," Just as he had In New York two years ago when Schmellng lost a decision and his world title to Jack Sharkey. Two hours before the fight Jacobs had protested the naming as referee of Juan Casanovas, secretary of the Spanish Boxing Federation and a close friend of Paulino's. Sasanovas is recognized as one of the foremost boxing autborities In Spain and observers could detect no favoritism ln the manner in which he handled the fight. Schmeling Draws Blood Schmeling opened a cut over Paulino's left eye in the sixth round. Blood, pouring from this and two other Wounds Schmeling inflicted ln tho tenthi spattered the customers in the firs! three rows during the closing rounds. All told, 70 boxers participated in the fistic carnival which began before noon, continued in three rings simultaneously throughout the hot afternoon, and finally wound up ahortly before 7 p. m. The crowd made a picnic of it and brought lunches.
Their third bout sounds allot like the first two. Schmeling was given at least 9 rounds out of 12 (9-2-1). Bloodied Uzcudum partially closing both of his eyes. Schmeling avoiding most of his opponents roundhouse swings.....etc. all three bouts are described in a similar manner.
