I've been boxing about a year, but recently I sprained my MCL. I've recovered for the most part, but I still don't feel comfortable going to the gym at the moment, so I've been doing my work at home on the heavy bag and striking bag.
Sometimes I'll add a pound weight or two to my 16 oz gloves to double or triple the weight.

Before I keep doing this, is it a good idea or not?

I tore my ACL and had surgery and months of physical therapy before I got back in a gym. It sounds like what you're doing is fine, but you should stregnthening your quads and the muscles around your knee in addition to boxing by doing squats, lunges, leg raises, and a lot of stretching.
