Anyone got one? I tried one at the gym, seemed like they would really improve your balance and help you punch harder and from better angles. Thinking of investing in one but they're quite expensive.
maybe so but they're convenient. For instance u can do it while watching the TV. And it seems they would help your balance alot more than other methods.
What does it do that a wooden plank on a piece of pipe does not? Why do you think it works better than other methods? Just curious.
Suppose so. I might have a go at constructing a one with an old skateboard deck and a small rugby ball or something like that. Not tried that many other methods to be honest but i've found this the most impressive by far.
I used to go down to the local kindergarden playground. They had these things the kids used to play on, where its like a wooden 'flower' on one spring, and kids would sit on the petals. Well I would stand in my stance on the petals and shadow box. I also used to do it on one of those motorbike things on a spring - that one was much harder. Did wonders for my balance, but I obviously had to do it late at night when nobody was playing there!
I came up with lots of creative training methods man. The playground was my favourite place in the world in those days. Did lots of wierd bodyweight training exercizes there. The main issue for me is that I was always physically very strong, but had **** coordination and footwork, so I came up with lots of drills which moved me from horrific to above average, and I think I've reached the limit set by my lack of talent. I would love to get into coaching some day when work stops being hectic as I'm a lot beter at developing others than I ever will be a boxer. I once was showing the basics to this Ukrainian kid who was the son of my mothers friend. Now he had talent - 13 years old, a muscular 60kg boy, very strong, amazing coordination. The rate at which he was picking things up was incredible. It was an amazing feeling for me. I tried to talk her into getting him into boxing, as he will grow into a heavyweight, but she didn't let him. Turns out his dad had been Ukrainian superheavyweight champion during the days of the late Soviet Union, and he was apparently a '****' who ditched them, so that made boxing taboo. :verysad:verysad:verysad
I'm the same mate. I'm like a big kid when doing road work, I balance on ledges, climb fences, run backwards and sideways, change direction all the time, etc. I was very clumsy so all this has helped me immensely. What I also found very useful is running on very bumpy surfaces, it makes you think about foot placement constantly.
Yep, I did that stuff as well. I had a hilarious situation once when I ran into the countryside and decided to run through the fields in a straight line, getting past any hazards/farmers. So eventually I got stuck with my pants on a barbed wire fence dangerously near my crotch, stinging nettle in my face and lots of other spikey bushes in very uncomfortable places. I couldn't see what was on the other side of this hedge in front of me, but cause I was stuck i started swiping this bush with my hands and ripping off branches. Eventually I slid out and into this farmers ditch, whcih was in between the hedge and the driveway of this really posh tennis club. The wankers there were very amazed when they saw me climb out of a ditch really muddy, swear a bit and then keep jogging!
****ing hardcore I did the straight line thing in the woods a lot, together with my dog. It made me feel like an animal, jumping over fallen trees and such
