if you're a "boxer" you typically are on both because you're moving a lot. Generally, both, but just the back is fine, plus you need to plant your feet to land hard punches anyway.
yah the reason i asked is because i saw some guy doing it. i think i will stay on both when i am hopping around the outside jabbing. and then when i start slugging it out or infighting i will plant the front.
i sometimes change between the 2 so i basically keep 1 foot planted and the other on the ball ready to switch 2 either quick
boxers = both feet sluggers = usually 1 at the gym i go to if your not on the balls of both your feet at all times you are in trouble!
for me it all depend on who im going against. i dont have a definate style you can always expect to see. i work on all aspects so i can change my style depending on my opponents style
the right heel raised slightly higher then the left! like that youre legs move wid ur hips! brings more power! watch trinidad or young tyson! look how much their right heels are raised when they throw powerful punches!
You can even have your back foot really hi on a jab. one of my favorite posters is one of Ali throwing a jab, and you can see how high his back foot is. man that Man really was the greatest!
How can you generate power from a flat foot?? if its flat you cannot push from it? so in that reasoning you would run flat foot :/?
You can still do it, depending on the type of punch. For example when I throw a left-hook from the orthodox stance, I'll transfer weight by pivoting my left foot to generate power and end up with my back foot down flat.
oh ok,you pivot from the left foot generating power, and your right foot keeps you from turning sideways so you return faster to you stance?
1) you're misunderstanding what he's saying. He is saying that the foot which will be supporting your weight after the weight transfer of a punch will be flat. This is good, as the less 'give' you have in that foot the less energy is wasted. 2) it IS possible to punch without pivoting on the back toe (ignoring left hooks for the minute). It's not ideal, but it is possible, and Tyson can be seen doing it on more than one occasion.
Not ideal at all since it is basically "arm punching" without any torque from the legs and hips making your power.
