Fair enough mate. Pretty low of top rank to do business this way. Either way I want to see this fight! :bbb
Further proof that toprank pulled a bait and switch here... Arum just announced its going to be rios v richard abril. Abril is the guy who stormed rios at the miami presser and got in to a pushing match and what not with him. Just coincidence that abril appeared at a press conference when gamboa was a no show?? Lol. Abril has 8 ko's. He has a win over miguel acosta. To make it worse....duboef told eveveryone they would still go ahead with the LA presser and expect gamboa to fight. Lying grubs. Good thing hbo look like passing on abril...arum said the fight will go ahead with or without hbo. Mike alvarado is on the undercard...why didnt they make rios v alvarado??
Very strange way of doing things by Bob here. I'd still try and catch Rios and Abril, but I doesn't have the same spice, that's for sure.
Just read on twitter that Top Rank are filing a law suit against Gamboa as he supposedly took a 70k advance for this fight and now hes backed out.
Taking a cash advance still doesnt change the fact that he never signed a contract that he claims had been changed. He could have been paid the total purse in advance... wouldnt matter if the contract was not what it was supposed to be. And thats apparently why he didnt sign it. I dont blame him for that. However, you dont have to nevessarily have a signed contract to make a deal valid. Courts can prove that, and have in the past. But its a lousy friggin business practice by toprank ( and other promoters) to do things this way...it just leaves the door open for something like this to happen. Remember, this isnt just about gamboa...toprank sold tickets, booked venues, reserved a hbo date, flights and hotels were booked by fans etc....all done without gamboa's signature on a bout agreement. What makes it suss is that toprank must have known he was getting cold feet because abril was at the miami presser - and now he gets the fight. Coincidence? Where gamboa might be to blame and probably is - he should have pissed his co- promoter off ( ahmet ohner) before he got in to talks about fighting rios. Apparently he isnt happy that ohner is more or less representing toprank with the "changed deal" they wantedhim to sign which included a 5 year extension. Be interesting to see where it ends. Toprank have a good record in court.
Mail is accurate. Would also include Alvarado-Herrera....a bunch of keep busy fights that i would watch but not pay hard earned $ for.
