Let's talk about it. Bam got dropped by an old pillow-fist. Yet nobody seems to be talking about it. When Inoue got dropped by Nery you never heard some posters shut about it and a number still haven't. Yet Bam fights someone who hits far lighter than Nery, is older than Nery, and who Bam was also supposed to dominate then gets dropped yet doesn't get any flack for it. Bam (since he's a Snac guy) drains himself to make the weight then rehydrates considerable amounts of weight after the weigh-in. I won't use the term weight-bully but this is just what he does and we've heard about him using IVs to make weight. This means his punch resistance goes down a bit in exchange for being the much bigger man and, by extension, the bigger puncher. But this is now twice in back to back fights where we've seen him get stunned against guys who, frankly, were never punchers in the slightest. Bam also has an under-bite which might contribute to his poor punch resistance idk. I think his chin could be problematic when he starts fighting guys his own size who can punch.
Bam got hit with a flash knockdown, wasn’t hurt at all, and quickly got up to win afterwards. Estrada isn’t a big KO puncher but he’s certainly not pillow fisted as well. Gallo is a sharp puncher and he caught Bam coming in. I think that says more about Bam’s recovery and not letting a knockdown get to him.
You make some good points but I don't put to much emphasis on fighters getting dropped and a correlation to them having bad chins. Even guys who were known for their iron chins got dropped once or twice (Toney, Ali,,Chavez etc).
Flash knock down happen. He wasn't hurt or stun. Got right up and won most of the rnd. Other than the flash knock down Estrada didn't do much. David Tua has a granite chin as they come. He had a flash knock down in a fight before. Then ate bombs from Ike like they were candy.
There’s a reason no one is talking about it, there’s nothing to talk about. He got up at about 2.5, smiled it off and finished the round stronger.
Estrada is sneaky with the right hand, no telegraph and throws it very quick, he didn’t see it coming, it was a flash knockdown probably on the point of the chin and he recovered instantly.
Estrada is no pillowfist, he doesn't sit down on shots but he is accurate and snappy and throws at high volume from all sorts of angles. Much harder and more aggressive punchers have barely hurt cuadras and Estrada stopped him
It was a flash knockdown and he wasn't visibly hurt or stunned so I don't see it's much of a talking point TBH. If a fighter is consistently getting wobbled, hurt, from single punches then you do have a valid point in regards to their chin maybe being suspect. But in regards to Rodriguez he suffered a flash knockdown in which he literally rose up again in half a second got up laughing and then went on the control the rest of the round. I also wouldn't say Estrada is pillow fisted when hes hes an accurate deadly counter puncher, his KO ratio isn't higher because hes been fighting a very high level of competition for the past 5 years or so.
That's like saying De La Hoya had a suspect chin because he was dropped with a Flash KD when he was in his early 20s cutting weight.
You nuthuggers never give up. Being knocked down by handpicked feather fisted opponents is the very first sign of a Glass Jaw.
