Ben won his way through the Final 16 a couple of month back in Japan, and the date for the final 8 was scheduled for December 26th (US time). The event isn't getting a whole lot of publicity. So it's quite possible the date has been changed only they haven't bothered telling the rest of the world.
"It was previously announced that K-1 WGP will be held in America on December 26, 2012. However it now definitely rescheduled for January 2013, the country-host is still to be confirmed." http://www.fightmag.net/?p=20833 Hopefully Ben will have time to get himself right by then.
Well Ben missed out on being selected for the Kimbo Slice fight. Probably a very sensible decision on the part of Kimbo's people. Bring on the K1 Final 8.
A date has finally been set for the K1 Final 8 that Ben Edwards has qualified for. But it's not until March 15th. No wonder Ben was keen to box Kimbo Slice in the mean time. But Kimbo's people were never going to take a risk against a guy like Ben who could have hospitalized him inside a round.
If Ben is successful in the K1 he could potentially have 3 fights in the one night on March 15th and then have only an 8 day break that included an international flight before a scheduled rematch in Canberra with arch rival Paul Slowinski. What a pity Kimbo Slice didn't choose Ben Edwards as his opponent. It sure would have ensured the crowd arrived early on Wednesday night.
And hopefully Shane can get the job done. But imagine a huge Ben Edwards first round KO of Kimbo. Might have required a stretcher and a big rethink about Kimbo's boxing future.
