Just look at The Ring's top 10 list: 1. Fernando Montiel - WBO & WBC champ 2. Anselmo Moreno - WBA champ 3. Hozumi Hasegawa 4. Yonnhy Perez - IBF champ 5. Joseph Agbeko 6. Nehomar Cermeno 7. Silence Mabuza 8. Abner Mares 9. Sasha Bakhtin 10. Eric Morel ....plus Nonito Donaire, Vic Darchinyan, Jorge Arce, and Cristian Mijares are all looking for fights at 118. The only name I don't recognize on that list is Sasha Bakhtin. Everyone else has fought on Showtime, or HBO or had significant fights against other top 10 fighters. The combination of possible fights in this division is crazy. Thoughts? what fights would you want to see? who will come out on top?
Yonnhy Perez is the guy im backing right now. Montiel wont hold onto the titles imo, he is good/decent but not great. Anselmo Moreno is very good but he needs to rematch with Cermeno as that fight was pretty controversial, i had it a draw personally. Hozumi Hasegawa can comeback from that loss, he just got caught. Nehomar Cermeno i would avoid like that plague, its not that he is particularly good or great he is just very very awkward to fight. Joseph Agbeko can come again after the war he had with Perez, which was closer after all. Hasegawa, Moreno, Perez are the best in that division imo. PS based on few fights against Mijares, Vic and Santos, Arce is done and should retire.
Seen Mares a few times and i personally dont buy into the hype, he is good prospect but i think he might be a bit too green, now even though they have both had relatively the same amount of fights i think Perez has proven his mentality in a balls to the wall fight and Mares has yet to show he can cope in that kinda fight, not to say he is incapable given the chance, we need to find out though. Perez just strikes me as a guy that just want be denied, should be a good fight though.
i feel'ya, the way he took care of agbeko was nice....mares doesn't have that experience, but i'm confident in his skills...the kid is nice with his hands....:good
Yeah its as i said, just because he has never stepped up does not mean he cant, Dirrell had never stepped up but he still arguably beat Froch and AA, same with Ward- Kessler. Thought they could of found a better tune up guy for him than the last guy he fought though.
that's what i was thinking.... the kid is lined up for a title and they put him in there witha punching bag....perez is not easy to hit, he keeps his defense tight, so that might be a problem......it's gonna be a nice fight and ultimately the fans are gonna be the ones that are gonna win :happy
I am very sold on Mares, so I'll be pulling for him but it should be a good fight. I thought Mijares was still retired, but I'm glad he came back.
Moreno deserves the top spot, Montiel lost to Valdez and got a gift draw. The Hasegawa win was superb, but the Valdez loss should keep Moreno at the top.
Current ESB Rankings at 118lbs. if you add Darchinyan and Donaire its crazy, should do a super 6 there.
