Unlike Marg, Williams has beaten every man he has stepped in the ring with. He avenged his loss to Quintana in stunning fashion and there has to be a rematch with Marg.

haha depends who you ask... some people will say both of them are garbage

im just talking generally... it just seems all young black fighters in general get the works as far as fan criticism goes... people give them an very hard time in my eyes atleast

I think it is probably the case that more is expected of young black fighters than young white fighters in the US, yes.

But there is certainly not more expected of young black fighters from the US than there is from young Mexicans, for example. The pressure/expectations placed upon white British fighters is serious, but the same expectations are being attatched to Khan, who is of asian decent.

They don't get it easy because people talk them up to be the next best thing and compare the to ATGs. When people hear for example, Berto is the next Leonard (Just an example). People will look for negatives and want him to lose.

I honestly find it to be the opposite, American black fighters seem to be the most hyped. Though at the same time with hype comes large amounts of criticism when they fail i guess.

Paul Williams is a bit underappreciated (losing to Quintana didn't help things), if he wins a rematch with Margo his stocks will soar through the roof though.

I was quite shocked to hear about the degree to which Pavlik felt he was discriminated against because of colour. Both black and white seem to be getting discriminated against in different ways as regards their expectations (obviosly - ying and yang). It's not the case in the UK. If someone does well, looks good, there are huge expectations and huge support from early on. Look at Khan. A silver medalist with speed and power, they've been talking about a world title shot from about his fifth pro bout! There were crazy expectations for Hatton, too. It makes no difference here.

Paul Williams does not get alot of credit because let's be honest. It was a boxing lesson to Margarito but Margarito was getting to him at the end. Williams was getting tagged alot and it was a closer fight than people would care to believe. It was however a classy performance nonetheless. But here is the big ticket reason..

He isn't a very good fighter to watch.

Not to mention he's been outboxed/outclassed as well by a B+ opponent in Quintana. I would be more concerned of you guys writing off Quintana because he lost via KO.

Whatever happened to rubber matches? In this case don't you think Quintana deserves one?

    Anyone?

    Bueller?

I think the general perception is that Margorito was at his lowest career ebb when he fought Paul, and now he is at his zenith. Tony was coming off several long gaps of inactivity, a bad win over Clottey, and frustration at having to face Williams instead of Cotto. Now he's at a higher level emotional level than he's ever been. That, and the fact that many people think (wrongly so) that Williams was lucky to survive the 11th round.

Look man I think Margarito and Paul were on the same level right before Margarito fought COtto. Alot of people didnt know who Margarito was until he proved himself in the ring with Cotto. Williams is a great fighter and I believe whoever wins the rematch will be not only the King of WW but also a star. This is why I think Marg V Oscar is a great match not only does Marg gain publicity but he destroys the money maker and becomes part of it. Trust me this is good for the WW division as the torch is passed on and everyone else will get attention other that Oscar. Williams is ok hes doing all the **** talking, and seems like hell fight anybody I see a bright future but I still think he needs that career defining moment like Margo had against COtto.
