I'd be careful about those bar tournaments, you could be disqualified from amateur boxing if the tournament has money winnings. And you need amateur fights before you go pro.
Thanks for the advice, I can't go pro at my age [54], just box for the exercise and the fun of it. I can't even box amateur at my age, only real option is the Masters Boxing Organization. I try and keep fit by boxing and sparring whenever I have the opportunity to do so. :bbb
A place I won't name does this, Rounds are 1 minute, and they do 3 of them. Aside from the fact that it's punching only, and they use mouthpieces, headgear, and gloves, they throw any standard boxing rules out of the window. I've seen folks knocked down for more than 10 seconds given time to recover then sent back in to fight. If you turn your back the ref will allow you to be bashed in the back of the head repeatedly. The refs/staff will help you up if you get knocked down, and let you continue fighting. The refs save nobody, the only way out is to fall. If you say you wanna quit you are encouraged to keep fighting. That being said, what it really all amounts to is that if you are gonna fight in these things you protect yourself, quit when you've had enough and let nobody tell you different. I don't have a problem with them myself, I love the idea. I'm just pointing out the dangers. I've seen several fights where the winning fighter quit because the other guy had obviously had enough and was just too proud to quit. I am O.K with all of this because you sign a waiver and know what your getting into, and if consenting adults want to beat each other to death in a bar they should be allowed to. Just go watch a few times and know what your getting into. I plan to fight soon and if I hadn't first been an observer then I would have been surprised when I got a hit to the back of the head, or upset when I put a guy down and he gets 40 seconds to recover.
Sounds interesting, though I am not that crazy of a fighter to just want to pound the crap out of my opponent if he can't protect himself. I enjoy the opportunity to deliver punches as well as take them. I have heard of fights like this but never been in any so drastic, some competitions I have been in were a little lop sided but I enjoyed the results of my matches. Thanks for your input, feel free to send a personal message with any locations you may know of if its allowed on the site.:bbb:good
Zelenoff screwed up, he's 0-1 as a pro, and I don't believe he can fight amateur now even if he wants to, he looked like it was the first time he was in a fight in his pro debut.
He can still fight amateur, it's true that what's true in one state is true in all states when it comes to boxing regulations right? If so then you aren't technically considered a pro until you win money. edit: Oh crap did he get paid for that fight?
What was he thinking going pro with no fights? I'm sure he was paid a little bit anyways for the trailer park series fight.
