Am I the only one who thinks it is ridiculous how the commentators are constantly saying how Loma isn't doing this, he isn't doing that, at some point in the fight? Relative to his previous fights he has only done X so far? This is a bad night? Loma did what he had to do to win last night IN A MEASURED INTELLIGENT MANNER. Could he have gone toe to toe with Pedraza in the first round and taken him out early? Probably, but that is not who Loma is and it is not who most top fighters are. They probe and when they feel they have figured out their opponent, they will exploit their weaknesses. Those fighters who go in for the immediate KO like a Lopez can do that against lesser opponents but as they move up the ranks this will eventually fail if they don't adapt. This unrealistic bar set for Loma is not only applied to him. You see the same kind of BS bantered about with Spence, GGG, Mayweather, Pac, all of the top P4P fighters. These guys aren't gods, they are human beings. They are the ones in the ring, who ply their trade, and do what it takes to put another W on their record.
Errrrr Ummmm I kinda feel in if anything Loma is being way over-hyped and over-praised and that most fans and commentators are salivating over him way too much... Are you suggesting he is not getting enough adoration?
I think it's sad, that most boxing "fans" want to see one guy beating his opponent in a one sided match. Why do you not appreciate close, entertaining fights? That's like watching the Champions League final match, where one team already shot 3 goals within the first 30 minutes.
No, not suggesting he is not getting enough praise. He is widely recognized as the current #1 P4P. I'm saying that unrealistic expectations are constantly being set by these idiotic commentators, and many boxing fans as well. And not just for Loma but many top fighters. Fans get carried away with what these guys can and should do in the ring. Next thing you know they're going to say, "yeah, but can he walk on water?"
Fully fit Crawford just took 12 to stop a relative cripple in boxing terms. Loma just whooped a two weight champion after shoulder surgery. The hurt is real
i think its on par with his level of hype. many of his fans will argue that he is better than a lot of boxers before who lived up to the same type of hype. he is a great boxer, no doubt, but he does have limitations, and they will start to get noticed more now that he is starting to max out his ceiling and getting long in the tooth. i think loma should go back to 130, where there are some great opportunities to look spectacular against legit competition, clean it out and establish yourself in the talks as goat at 130. by this time, the young talent at 135, and there is a lot of it, will have created some credible stars for loma to build legacy and purses with. i would like to see mikey next, but i think mikey kills his chances of any comparisons to greats at 135, so its probably better for loma not to lose at a point where he is supposedly in his pomp..
Benavidez is "a cripple" because ESPN made him out to be so. He never was a nimble mover in the first place. A lot of fighters deal with injuries, doesn't make them cripples. Benavidez going 12 with Crawford shows he was in shape and more than capable of standing his ground(no pun intended).
This is why I don't like when people overhype certain fighters, especially ones I'm a fan of. Because then if he doesn't look as great there's all sorts of backlash.
