It would get ugly. I would have to favor Walcott, because he was an absolute wrecking machine. Joe Choynski was arguably the hardest punching light heavyweight of that era, and Walcott just demolished him!
Walcott was the most dangerous puncher, that the welterweight division ever produced, including Hearns! He was also seen as a scientific fighter by contemporaries!
Do you seriously not know about Barbados Joe Walcott? I thought this was the Classic forum. He has a very good argument as one the hardest punchers p4p ever, seriously hurting and KOing men way out of his weight class. KO percentage doesn't full tell a man's power, especially from that era and the ridiculous weight concessions and top ATG opponents he was fighting. Ignorant comment.
On class I would favour Walcott and his power, but lack of film on both him and his opponents make it hard for me to pick him.
I'm well aware of Walcott's reputation as a puncher. The question was, if he's the biggest EVER at welterweight… and nothing in his record suggests to me, that he was a bigger puncher than SRR or Thomas Hearns.
Who are the heavyweights that Walcott demolished, that would be too much for welterweight Robinson to handle?
Joe Choynski for one. The man who had previous fought Jim Jeffries to a draw, and would knock out Jack Johnson a year later!
Choynski weighed 163 when he fought Walcott - hardly what I would call a heavyweight. Walcott himself was 147. Any reason to believe Choynski would be a mountain too tall for Robinson to climb?
Those figures are disputed by some. The lighter punching Joey Maxim was. Even if Robinson did beat Choynski, I doubt that he would dominate him.
