I'm not much of a fan of this bare knuckle lark but there's the potential for serious money here if they can get manage to get these fights sanctioned, hyped and televised. If this bout is a success then there'll certainly be others out there who might make the switch (or in most cases a return) to BKB. What do people think of this... Could this sport ever evolve from a being a murky gambling orientated youtube phenomen / method of settling disputes in some cultures to being a viable enterprise with respectability or am I just talking crap..? You never know - it could be a flash in the pan but look where the UFC started and where it is now; http://www.irish-boxing.com/2011/09/gunn-to-continue-bare-knuckle-career-against-james-quinn/
Maybe, but surely the success of the likes of K1, cage rage and so forth indicates there's certainly an audience out there for a more brutal form of a combat sport..?
Doctors are already trying to prevent young people from boxing. What makes you think bare knuckle boxing will ever be accepted this day and age?
I support Bare Knuckle Boxing. I hope they continue to make fighst and that it leads to the abolishment of the ABC.
Looked up Quinn's fights. These bums are out of shape and swing wildly. It's not even in a ring, it's in the middle of the road.
I'm not a fan of it but I reckon it could become acceptable because there is clearly some demand for it and a market for it. Obviously it couldn't continue in it's current form (in country lanes and church car parks) but I could envisage it gaining a following on satelite TV if it evolved to a point were there was medical supervision, a rounds system, weight divisions etc etc. I was in Thailand a few years ago and I couldn't believe the amount of combat sports on telly so it might gain an initial foothold on terestrial TV somewhere in the far east and after a few years might manage to negotiate a season on a lesser known cable/ satelite channel. HBO are apparently interested in screeing this bout but I appreciate that could be the fighters tyring to create hype. Only a short time ago the UFC was banned in something like 47 or 49 US states and was considered nothing more than brutality and look at the respectability it has today. Obviously there are inherint differences but you could draw some analogies and similiarities between the two and I reckon there's sufficient evidence to suggest that bare knuckle boxing definately has the potential to become popular and acceptable. I'm not saying it definately will, but it definately could. Not sure what you mean by "doctors are already trying to prevent young people from boxing" - it's a bit of a sweeping statement. My own doctor had no difficulty in filling out my boxers card when I completed my medical and he confessed to being a fan himself and I've heard neurologists from Beaumont Hospital in Dublin on the radio supporting boxing. The current head of the Boxing Union of Ireland (Mel Christle) had a brother (Terry) who is an ex pro and a doctor so I don't think you can claim that the entire medical profession is anti boxing.
aint gona happen..it will be shunned by the main stream and if you think boxing is corupt then you should know that the bkb world is even worse..
bare knuckle is always around in gypsie circles but it sux you cant do defensive maneuvers like block parry counter etc also combos are impossible for the most part its simply straight punches one at a time altho to be fair kimbo had a great uppercut rarely see that , without breaking a hand this is just a lil money maker for guinn who couldnt cut it in boxing at any kinda level kimbo beats these fools 10gs meet u in the yard allll day
True. Interesting to see what will happen if this is a financial success. I'd say Kimbo will definitely challenge the winner if there's money made out of this bout
