first sanctioned bare-knuckle boxing match since 1889, when John L. Sullivan had his hand raised after foe Jake Kilrain's corner threw in the towel http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/6835788/bringing-back-bygone-bareknuckle-era-boxing
Actually, this is for people who don't like the UFC because of the rolling around on the ground. If your attention span doesn't allow you to concentrate on a twelve-round boxing match and watching sweaty men grapple isn't to your tastes then you can get the best of both worlds with manly fistic fireworks combined with UFC gloves WITHOUT the homosexual overtones. Brilliant.
I don't understand why TS thinks this is so "bull****" because it's safer than gloved boxing in every way other than to the fighters' hands and if it's around for awhile then we're bound to get some classic KOs which are always entertaining.
Such a difference beïng hit bare knuckle, 4 ounce or 10 ounce... I'm a bit surprised this actually is getting sactioned.
Nice!!! I love it! Maybe now they'll go back to letting fights to their natural conclusion in boxing too!
It's whatever. It shouldn't ever take off, it'll be a novelty regional thing in Arizona, New Mexico, etc. I do think it's bad ass to see John L. get some good shout outs on an ESPN article.
I doubt it, the pussification of boxing fans has been going on for far too long and the modern breed of "fan" is far more likely to cry about a perceived late stoppage than an early one like they did when I first became enamored with the sport.:-(
