I expect a lot of tricks from Barrera in the ring on Saturday night. I expect him to be a dirty fighter, use his elbows, maybe head butt, but it's not like we are not 100 per cent prepared to deal with that. "Amir can't afford to lose his head against Barrera. He's a very wily veteran, he knows all the tricks of the trade, he's sneaky, but we are prepared for all his tricks. "Speed is our asset, and speed will win this fight. Barrera is a patient fighter, he will only fight for one minute of every round, so we'll push the pace in those other two minutes, and make him work. We will beat him in the same way that Manny Pacquiao beat him. Amir has the same if not better speed than Manny." "I think he's going to be my next champion. That's my goal. I think he will champion soon, but I'm not sure if we will jump into a title fight straight away, if things go according to plan against Barrera." Roach added: "I expect good things out of Amir in this fight. His total game is really improved. He's a smarter and a stronger fighter. We took this fight because it was the right time. I feel Amir is too young, too fast, and his youth will take over for this fight. "Getting ready for a guy like Barrera, we have had tough guys in to spar with Amir who are counter punchers, and pressure fighters who have had him in the corner, under pressure. I'm sure Barrera will have studied the Prescott fight, and will be looking at that left hook which caught Amir. We've really worked on that, and particularly worked on Amir's mental game. He has come on a long way in his last two training camps."
Khan had his cell phone confiscated by Roach last weekend, and was told his legions of friends and admirers should stay away. "I've taken away his cell phones – taken away outside distractions, it's just Amir, me and trainer Jesse. We get up in the morning, do our roadwork, have a good nap, and just stay in camp mode. "I want Amir staying focused for the fight. He has a lot of friends and they all want a piece of him, want to hang out with him, and they simply can't. This is the biggest fight in his career, and we need his mind totally on the job."
I hope this is true. If it is I think I might have to reassess my original view of a Barrera victory. Khan's got the talent but he keeps having his head turned. Maybe Freddie Roach is doing the right thing.
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12183_5041346,00.html Just seen the interview with Freddie Roach, seems very honest about Khan's prospects and what to expect in the fight. Cannot wait.
Headbutt? When the **** did Marco ever headbutt anybody. Roach is a clown - he thinks he is more important than he is in actuality. Shush.
Of course if Barrera hits Khan with the same kind of shot he decked Marquez with, he won't have to follow up with a cheap nasty shot like he did in that fight....Khan will be out.
If either boxer was to fight dirty I wouldn't care tbh. A fighter's got to do what a fighter's got to do. Just aslong as we get a good'un.
Barrera is a very dirty fighter.... I've mostly seen his big fights and in almost all of them he did something dirty....pre-fight Morales....he punches Morales in a press conferance....he shoved Hamed into the turnbuckle final round......he and his team jumped into the ring and splashed liquid over junior jones and grabbed his leg after Junior Jones KO'd Barrera,.....he hit Pacman on the break when the ref clearly steps between them and stopped them fighting.....when things go against him....he can be very dirty...... Having said that, I still take him to be Khan....and I really like Barrera as a fighter....although I prefered Morales
He's a dirty fighter, especially when things were going against him. His headbutt in the first Pac fight was one of the most blatant fouls i've ever seen. It was not a 1-off. I was always a big fan of Eric Morales and never liked MAB much apart from when he battered Naz, but I'd really like to see him banjo Khan tomorrow.
Barrera will use his experience like old pros do things like stepping on their opponets toes, etc. Khan shouldnt worry about illegal tactics though. He will have enough to worry about from Barreras right and left hands :deal
I'm in complete agreement with Betty. And in the last year I'm going off Roach a bit - training wise he is vey good but he is not a respectful guy with his comments.
