Hearn's tried to correct his failures of the first bout and to show his superiority, but instead found out that Iran was, indeed, his personal boogey man.

It was an extremely close fight, a one point fight on two of the scorecards. I've never watched nor scored it, as I hear it's a brutal affair where they basically languish on the ropes and beat whatever career they each had left out of one another in a grueling 12 round bout.

I thought that Barkley won clearly, but I haven't watched it in years.

Was really disappointed in Hearns for this one.He fought way to cautiously.Though he was passed his prime, other fights he had during this period, he made an effort to be quite aggressive.

I had it either a draw or hearns by one...hearns sctually stopped throwing rights as his hand was damaged after 2 rounds ...yet he took it to wire....a real shame cos tommys hands during 1991-1992 were blistering ...hed seem to have got back the speed he seemed to lose in 1988......

One f the most gruelling hard fights ive ever seen

Iran barkley was tommys vietnam...a war he couldnt win no matter how outgunned how massacred his foe was...

Was it that close? I remember scoring the fight quite convincingly for Barkley. But I will watch it again.

Barkley was Hearns crytonite. Who knows why. Sometimes styles make fights. I thought Hearns had a chance to win this fight, but he let some of the mid rounds go to Barkley. both guys were damaged after this fight. A grueling fight. Hearns had a broken nose and Barkley 2 broken ribs and cuts and swelling. as did Hearns. Hearns in the later round hurt Barkley with a left to the body and left to the head. I am not sure why he didn't do that more.

Tommy was fighting with a broken right hand after the early rounds..as well as one of the worst broken noses ive ever seen...his whole face looked different almost joan rivers or mickey rourke deranged after the fight....its a measure of the man that with one hand he pushed a brutish Barkley to life and death.

Is the facial damage similar at all to Foreman's against Stewart? That was quite bad...

I think it was worse russell....foreman was badly battered and bruised....but he still looked like foreman....tommy experienced fubar...he actually looked different such was the extreme facial damage to his nose

It's a wonder Tommy fought on for as long as he did, without ever really fully giving out. He always had something to offer, even 15 years past his best. Imagine all the work he must have put in over the years in the gym. Pretty remarkable stuff.

Especially when you consider he was often thought to be a bit fragile body and durability wise. His legs were probably struggling even by the Roldan fight.

I can't think of anyone else with an equal level of that "danger man" aura, of potentially even having a glass chin, that fought on and operated on such a high level for so long.

You think about Hearn's as one of those blazing comet type talents, the sort that does something like destroy a Cuevas and then just disappear after their first big loss, like Hearn's against Leonard. He had that much skill, and lethal power.

But, nope. Somehow he fought plugged along for years and years, even into the new millennium somehow, I believe (Too lazy to boxrec)

Not a guy you'd exactly peg to have a lot of time longevity in the sport.

Great points especially the final one. The fact that he could still comfortably outperform the best light heavyweight in the world (Hill) at the stage that he did is crazy. The only kicker is that the further he went on the more susceptible he became to brawlers but he was still in there hammering away. Never ducked anyone either.

Iran Barkely's resilience was remarkable. Look at all the losses and he bounced back to beat Hearns at 175 too.
