Surely if you have a person in charge of your weight, you would be able to eat three square meals a day in the lead up to the fight and not have to worry.

Nor should you have to dehydrate yourself something silly either.

You would think being a Manc boxer that Barnes would have at least sought advice from someone like Kerry Kayes, who seems to know the business pretty well.

    hopefully mate,

just heard that IF he couldnt shift it, the fight still goes ahead, but if barnes won the fight then the title is declared vacant.

that would be a bit of a bummer ay?

I don't see why people are worried about drinking water - if the diet has been properly managed he should be able to **** out a glass drunk only an hour afterwards!

It depends what he had to do to shed the pound, half hour on a treadmill at a reasonable pace should suffice, 5k wouldn't take that much out of you.

Going down In weight will prove bad for Barnes.

Exactly. I was just about to say that. He was a big welter and there was no need for him to drop down to 140. At 40 his dried out listless and too tight at the weight. Problem is his only ever going to mill around the domestic scene and nothing more. His not good enough for any world or European honours.
