I just got a copy of a Barney Ross biography by Douglas Century, has anyone else read this. I plan on starting it Tuesday, and was wondering if I was in for a good read, or if I was better off reading something else.

Yes PP it is a good read...i read the book a couple of years ago about
Barney Ross a great fighter and an authentic American Hero...What a fighter Ross was ! In 82 bouts against such greats as Armstrong, Canzoneri, Petrolle, Ceferino Garcia, etc Barney Ross lost just 4 bouts, and was never kod..Ross was a war hero and was a decorated Marine at Guadacanal in World War 2... What a man he was! Enjoy the book.

I've got it, and it's a good read. I knew a bit about him as a fighter inasmuch as whom he'd fought and a few of his good wins, but his is really a fascinating study in courage on so many fronts. He came back from so much in the ring, on the battlefield, drug addiction, etc. A true success story.

    I enjoyed it.

I knew about his ring exploits but was sadly ignorant of his war time heroics, subsequent drug addiction and battle with this addiction.

The book also touches on his blase' attitude to money, weakness for a bet and his own fascinating formative years amongst gangsters, shysters and Rabbi's.

    A worthwhile read imo.
