Broner has no chance. If anyone thinks that's old time bias after watching footage of both fighters then they should commit suicide in front of their nearest and dearest.
Why is it? Make it over 10 rounds and how would Ross or Broner be lost technically? Stylistically is another matter but then again that would be true regardless of the era.
I have no response to your attempt at subtle humor ,or contempt for true hero's like Barney Ross who made it possible for you sir, to even be at ESB.:hi:
Yes BE is probably from Britain who was our closest comrade in WW2. The country that spawned the great Winston Churchill. But to denigrate a hero like Barney Ross with senseless and tasteless humour is dead wrong. Maybe I come from a generation of Americans that fought and died in the Pacific Theatre, some I knew personally, that has made me so mad with many of this younger generation. Remember what the philosopher Santayana said, " those that don't read history, are doomed to repeat it ".
So what. I a lover of boxing lore am American , BUT I still know and revere the legacy of Brits as Jim Driscoll, Ted Kid Lewis, Len Harvey, Jock McAvoy, Jackie Kid Berg, etc..I love and respect all great fighters for their COURAGE and bravery irregardless of where they were born...But I suggest you read up on Barney Ross who was a terrific fighter in the ring who was never stopped, not even in Guadalcanal...
I'm actually a huge Barney Ross fan. Fantastic fighter, textbook boxer tough as all get out. Wasn't he supposed to be a rabbi? Anyway sarcasm aside he was a great guy, a war hero, and probably one of the two dozen best boxers of the 20th century. Asking how Broner would do against an ATG is premature to say the least. And if anyone thinks he is too 'primitive' watch the fight with Billy Petrolle and get back to me.
LR, now you make sense. Barney Ross was a great fighter who beat Tony Canzoneri, Billy Petrolle [the Carmen Basillio of his time], Jimmy Mclarnin the bigger prime MW Ceferino Garcia 3 times, and Ross was never dropped let alone kod in 81 tough bouts. Against a prime tornado named Henry Armstrong, Ross past his peak took a horrendous beating from Armstrong and still was on his feet after 15 rounds...As a youngster I saw an old gray Barney Ross all by his lonesome self at a bar nursing a drink. I wanted so bad to walk over to him and shake this brave fighter's hand , but I was too shy to do that...Adieu...
Tony Canzoneri disagreed with this assessment of Petrolle (as do I) ;-) . No knock on Carmen, but Petrolle was a much better fighter.
S, I agree, and so did Ruby Goldstein when I asked him who was a better fighter ?? He answered Billy Petrolle, even without his Navajjo blanket :good
Petrolle was a KILLER. Tony Canzoneri and Jimmy McLarnin both agreed that he was the only fighter that they were ever afraid of. "The Fargo Express" could run right over you and leave you badly mangled.
