Sadly, the amount of film here is little more than tease, especially knowing this was a FOTY that was ranked the 75th ATG title fight. This content is protected I have an announcement to make before I score this. I recently converted to the 10-must system, but learned since then that in the 30s fights were scored on rounds, rather than points, which is how I intend to do them. Unless someone asks for me to specifically score a round using 10-must, I will do it the 30s way. I will not resume 10-must until later on down the road. Yes, there are only two rounds: 1. Ross showed a superior jab. McLarnin's was not as good. He did land some good right hands though. Ross. 15. Both were slugging it out, obviously tired, but both giving their best, trying with everything they had to win the finale. Ross. Not enough to go on to pass a verdict, but Ross did look the better of the two in this fight. Not necessarily more skilled, but better prepared.
I thought Ross clearly won both rounds as well, but that's hardly enough to judge an entire fifteen round fight. Ross' jab really was brilliant, I'm in awe of it. He used it better in the fifteenth IMO, where whenever he didn't want to get up-close and wanted a breather, he just kept McLarnin off him with it. He only did it once, but I really liked how at one point he pivoted a full 360° around McLarnin; literally boxing circles around him. Jimmy's a weird fighter. He reminds me of a cross between Fullmer and Foreman. He has that weird knack of winging huge punches to walk you into more compact ones, as well as having fighting at ridiculously close distance which Fullmer did. He also had that Foreman/Fullmer bull strength, with a huge punch to boot. He was also massive for the weight like George was.
That's so strange, not necessarily wrong, just strange. I've never heard someone compared to Fullmer and Foreman before.
