I think it would come down to Duran trying to get real close, and Ross wanting to be not quite so close, if that makes sense. Duran more bulling in the action and Ross looking to turn the bull.

1st, anybody who beat Canzoneri and Jimmy McLarnin is a great fighter. But Roberto was something very special at 135lbs and I don't think Ross ,who only had 22 ko's in 81 fights has the artillery to battle with Duran on the inside and discourage his attacks. I've got Duran by UD in the 144-141 range.

I don’t think you beat Duran with power anyway… unless you’re several weight classes bigger like Hearns “moar powa” ain’t gonna cut it anyway, I’d elect to point out De Jesus and Benitez both beat him without heavy artillery just straight boxing.

I don't think Ross could hang with Duran, don't see anything He could do to stop him.
Honestly, out of all the fighters mentioned on ATGs lists, Barney is one guy which I find very underwhelming, disappointing on tape. In terms of an eye-test, nothing really stands out about him, to me.

The Benitez version of Duran isn't a good measuring stick. He was sleepwalking for a few years after beating Ray Leonard and DeJesus was a fantastic fighter. I've always wondered why Durans team chose Estaban DeJesus for a non title stay busy tune up fight .

Benitez wouldn’t have beaten Duran in Montreal , or any time between then and the Palomino fight. The difference in speed from then to the Benitez fight is huge.
What flaws do you think De Jesus had? I thought he had everything except size
