This was smack-dab in the middle of the MAB transition from brawler-boxer to boxer-puncher.

Just complete and utter domination. A fine wine. Vintage Barrera.

    just watched it on Boxnation
    didn't see it for years
one of his rebuilding fights after the 2 Jones' losses
in that fight he was in the transitioning process to become a complete boxer puncher
    loved the vicious body shots

Absolutely brutal to watch at the time. When a guy gets pulled out after the first round, you know it's been a bit of a beatdown.

Barrera was rebuilding at the time after the Jones losses, and iirc Lloyd was the Britsh and European champion. On paper it wasn't that bad a match-up, but from the first bell it was a horrible mismatch.

When you fought Barrera you really needed some pop in your punches, otherwise he would just walk through you. I remember him doing something similar to Frankie Toledo, who later went onto win an alphabet title.

It serves to illustrate how tough Morales was, as he was able to take those kind of punches and give it right back over 36 rounds.

Think how much more he would go on to accomplish, and this is was his comeback after retirement following a career that had already seen him become a TV fixture in several countries and as close as the lighter weights had to a household name alongside Hamed and Morales. Just with his old style.

This flip of the switch back then was just remarkable. Not that pre-Jones Barrera wouldn't have likely destroyed Lloyd as well, but here it was just so efficient and tidy...so damn pretty.

Those 3 minutes felt like an hour for Lloyd.

One of the most horrendous first round beatings I've seen.

I've seen first round KO's before, but this looked worse, as it was a completely one-sided pounding for the full three minutes, with shots just raining in. Look at his face in the corner -- he actually looks like he's gone 12 rounds. And those body shots...

The commentator said it best. Chilling to watch. Very glad it was stopped.

Wow, this was incredible. Especially coming from two straight losses from Jones. He made a statement with this chap.

Beautiful offensive showing, but loads of guys would look at lot better on offense fighting a guy that much smaller and overmatched. Still, I've never looked a tenth that good hitting a bag alone in a gym, so here's to and ATG MAB.

    :think Like?

I think that's about as well and truly annihilated as someone can be.

Even if someone had knocked Lloyd out for a count with a single punch before the final bell of the 1st and therefore technically "outdone" Barrera by doing the job in less time...I'm not sure you can find a more destructively one-sided offensive tidal wave without searching high and low..
