“It would have been very good (fight), Juan Manuel Márquez is an excellent counter-puncher, the best in Mexico. I think he's right up there with Canelo Alvarez with his excellent counterattack. [Márquez] is a fighter who is looking for you, he does not have a great punch, but he is accurate.

"On the other hand, Morales is the opposite, he has a punch that is criminal.. every time he hits you it's like heaven moved you. I faced them both, but I would have leaned a little bit for Morales.

"Erik is a fighter who heats up very quickly and that is where I won. I said things to him, made him throw, I made him lose concentration, because if he set down at a long distance, he wouldn't have let me do anything. If I let him do his boxing, I would never have been able to get in, he had long arms, and to me he is one of the hardest punchers in boxing."

The only problem with MAB's assessment is that he is not friends with Erik Morales and on the flipside, he's not
    on friendly terms with Marquez.
Another thing, at 122 lbs where MAB first faced Morales, there Morales was a murderous puncher.
Still had very good power at 126 lbs but not murderous like it was at 122 lbs.
130 lbs and up Morales was no longer a puncher.

This is how I would compare Morales' and Marquez' punching power at various weigh classes.

    126 lbs- Even
    130 lbs- Marquez
135 lbs and up- Not even comparable, Marquez was proven with his punching power compared to Morales at any weight 135lbs and above.

The only chance to win Morales would have is at 126 lbs where to me Marquez is in his absolute prime and more multi-faceted than Morales.
Add to that, that Marquez' stamina is endless and Morales tends to tire late and imo it does'nt look good for Morales.

Morales fought a Maidana who took him lightly as Morales was making a comeback into a higher weight class and Maidana had no
    respect for Morales.
Morales stunned Maidana but wasn't able to finish the job, unlike when Marquez stunned Juan Diaz, Casamayor, and Katsidis, he went on to finish the job.
What happened when Morales and Maidana met again in a rematch?? Well now Maidana knows that Morales isn't going to just fold up easy so he actually trains and stops Morales in a fairly easy fashion.

Morales is better than Marquez and has the tools to beat him. Past it Morales didn't need 4 fights to clearly beat Pac, he did it in one. Barrera > Marquez too.

The guys are friends today. Both Erik and Marco have made up and have lots of mutual respect for each other. Marquez too is an ATG. Great fighters great men.

Marquez can't fight off the front foot. So hes at the mercy of Morales' ego.

If Morales chooses to engage and bring the fight to Marquez I would lean towards Marquez.

If Morales sits back and uses his longer and better jab he will take the fish out of the water and have him flop around helpless on the dock. If Morales chooses to box and move he wins a wide, comfortable decision.

If Morales forced Marquez to lead, he would win. His length, skill and power allows him to constantly control center ring, and by extension exchanges and when they happen, against a counter puncher like Marquez, and also allow him to work the lead and potshot.

Chirs John had moments where he forced Marquez to lead, and it lead to JMM lunging in and looking somewhat careless and unrefined. Imagine a disciplined Morales.

Agreed. Also you forget to mention that Morales is faster of hand and feet than Marquez. If Morales stays disciplined and forces Marquez to lead it's extremely difficult to imagine anything other than Morales UD.

I always fancied marquez just because of morales machismo... He would go at marquez... Playing into marquez hands.... Would've been a brilliant fight I have no doubt but I always thought marquez was the more skilled of the two... Maybe I should watched more of morales fights from when he was at superbantam

Marquez is the more skilled counterpuncher no doubt, but when you take him out of his element he looks far worse. Morales has the exact skillset needed to take the fish out of water and have him flop on the dock. Marquez can't lead. And Morales is longer, faster and has a better jab.

He stays disciplined and not only does he defeat Marquez. It would not be all that close. Like a 9-3 or 10-2 decision win for Morales.

Morales also didn't need to hire a PED expert, although he did beat a one dimensional Pac and used clenbuterol much later on his career.
