IBF has ordered a purse bid for the IBF mandatory position between Beterbiev and Barrera. Duva, Barrera's promoter, has apparently already told Michel that Barrera wouldn't fight in Canada, if they lose the purse bid. Which means the fight won't happen, which means they are buying time for a Kovalev - Beterbiev clash.

They tried to look good offering the Tchetchen a fight in Moscow against Kovalev (which they knew Beterbiev would not have taken). Now they are trying to get away with the fight.

Why did they know they wouldn't take it? Because they can circumvent the Kovalev fight to get a free title? I guess this is what you have to expect.

You'd think for all their talk about this beast, destroyer and whatever they would have stepped up to the plate the moment they've been offerred the fight.

Why can't Beterbiev fight in The States, not everything is Duva's fault.

I'd totally understand if Duva didn't want Beterbiev to become the mando. She probably knows Haymon will force them to drop the belt once he wins the purse bids.

If I remember right, Kovalev gave Beterbiev a fair offer to fight in Russia. Beterbiev was the one to turn it down. Kovalev doesn't fear anyone in the division. Anyone dumb enough to think so has to only look at the man's resume.

    This is all boxing politics.

Does this signal Kovalev v Barrera?

Apparently Kovalev/Duva now have the backing of Russian money for when the purse bid happens and any fights in Russia. He won't be dropping any belts. Ryabinskiy alone has more money than Hayman's Waddel & Reed fund.

That's not what I heard. I heard they couldnt get money for a fight in Russia. That's why we haven't heard of it in weeks.

Why should Beterbiev fight in the USA if they win the purse bid?

All Duva has to do is win the purse bid and she can make the fight where ever she wants.

Kovalev is definitely fighting in November though because he tweeted about training today. Russia was the plan, I'm not sure if it still is the plan.

If Barrera can't get the Beterbiev fight, he makes sense as an opponent for Kovalev.

I remember it differently. I remember Team Beterbiev saying that the proposed 75/25 split made sense if the fight was in the US, but not in Russia where Beterbiev is apparently more of a household name than Kovalev due to their amateur careers.

I haven't seen that rich Russian guy involved in any purse bids yet, I'm curious to see how this one pans out. Haymon will want this one on his terms, Beterbiev is the only real threat to Kovalev's titles.
