MAB was as good as JMM technically or close enough to not make a difference, but had a lot more pop in his shots and was much better at initiating contact and went to the body a lot more. I'd take MAB if they had met at FW, but you could reasonably make an argument either way.
Yet he still beat him 3 times, Barrera was that good, not on the level of Morales yet still managed to beat him 3 times.
There's absolutely no realistic argument for stating categorically that Morales was better than MAB.None
I like BarrerA, behind JMM and Morales. I lost respect for him when he fought Pac like a ***** not even trying to win
I think Barrera & Marquez are about equal overall, Barrera might have the edge in brawling, he takes a better shot on the chin & hits a little harder, Marquez might have the edge from distance due to his counter-punching ability tho but overall they are on the same tier.
I don`t know what fights you were watching, I scored the first 2 fights to Morales, I can accept someone scoring fights 1 & 3 for Barrera, they were razor close fights (biased HBO Barrera dickriding notwithstanding) but to score fight 2 to Barrera is nothing short of plain denial, Morales won that **** & it was the only clear win of the trilogy. Ps. lets not derail the thread by turning it into a Morales v Barrera debate, even on boxing forums poor Marquez ends up in the shadow of these 2
Excellent point at the end Bill.Agree to disagree with the rest out of loyalty for our shared location.:good
Barrera`s only argument is the 2-1 h2h (which wasn`t what I scored at all)... Morales has Junior Jones & Pac, 2 men that beat MAB by KO in his prime, Morales went all the way up to 140 giving prime Maidana all he could handle way past his own prime, he was better at 122 lbs than Barrera was at any weight, was never KO`d in his prime years & has the better resume outside of the trilogy.... he also is Mexico`s first 4 weight champion, Cano might not have deserved to be given a shot but Morales did & he took it + it made up for him being on the wrong end of a bogus hometown decision vs David Diaz at 135 lbs a few years back so fair is fair Morales > Barrera.... but they made each other bigger & both are/were special fighters, no doubt.
I really don't want to debate with someone from my hood but it all depends on how you score the trilogy.I had MAB winning 1 and 3 while Morales should have had 2.I didn't watch it on HBO and just because you're a Morales fan it doesn't mean he won all 3 just because you(meaning everyone who thinks this) think he did.Barerra beat him twice so it can never be stated beyond reproach that Morales was better.
Addie is a good guy but you cannot talk Barrera with him & expect a neutral discussion... of course he`ll say the exact same thing with me & Morales but thats why we`re all here I guess, all different opinions
