Is it possible that Floyd had a fight with Barrera or Morales around 2001 when Floyd was superfeather while Barrera and Morales were at featherweight? At superfeatherweight, do you guys think these Mexican warriors would have a chance on beating Floyd?
Mayweather was trying to get a Hamed fight around this time but couldn't Neither would have won a round, see Morales-Raheem and Barrera-Junior Jones/Pac
Both give him tough fights, there are those who say they would get dominated and even stopped, but both in their 130 prime would give May a good fight at the very least. But Floyd would have all the advantages, being a career Super Featherweight, while Morales started at 122, and Barrera at 115.
I think Mayweather's style would give Barrera fits, IMO. Morales would have success IMO, he would be the only one out of the 3 Mexicans who could actually push Mayweather all the way, and even steal a victory. People who point out bouts Barrera and Morales lost (like above) are probably the same people who think because Marquez is a counter puncher, Mayweather is a counter puncher also, which means he would beat Pacquiao.
No. We would have heard about it. Unless they had it in an underground car park like Leon Gaultier and the Scotsman in the film A.W.O.L./Lionheart. But I find this idea highly unlikely.
Stylistically they would have struggled to win rounds. Barrera at lighter weights was one of the best combinations punchers I've ever seen, but he stepped away from that a little when he was up at 135 IMO. I always have thought it would take a southpaw (ideally) quick, flurrying fighter who would beat Mayweather. Like a Ortiz, Judah and Corley (and obviously Pacquiao). I think Cotto, as a methodical fighter, did as well as anyone could against this variation of Floyd. True Oscar won more rounds but Mayweather in that fight looked terrible.
Not sure about victory but both compete well. Barrera had a great jab and vicious calculated body attack when he made the transition to boxer-puncher, and had great balance and upper body movement. He also showed that he can pull off an extremely disciplined fight with calculated combinations against Hamed, and that's the kind of mix of patience and aggression that benefits fighters when fighting Mayweather Jr. Morales would have a better shot I feel, because his best shots were straight punches; jabs, 1-2's and his overhand right. He's very good at leaning in and baiting to drop a fighter's guard or invite a jab, and land over the top with the solid right (the move he's been using to compete with younger, stronger, faster fighters for the last year and a half or so.) His right to the body was also very strong, and that's one punch that's almost always there for Floyd, given where he positions his left elbow. His ability to box intelligently while viciously advancing also helps him here as well. And of course, both were tough as nails and could likely take a good few shots from Floyd, who was a big puncher at 130.
Neither has much of a chance...Barerra gives to much up physically, Morales would cop a drubbing on the punchstats...not that I put much faith in those but that would be an easy night for the clicker dude.
:bart Raheem was at 135 when Erik was fading bad already looked badly outta shape. Just shortly before that Terrible gave Floyd a butt whippin in sparring and beat Pacman at 130. Even a past his prime Morales was better than Chico with all due respect. And Floyd/Junior Jones is a weak comparison they fight nothing alike. Barrera/Jones was at 122. Floyd might of won,on a split decision vs Morales and wins by UD vs Barrera, but no way one sided. Barrera was like a smaller, faster, smarter version of Cotto supposedly he schooled Chico in sparring too. Morales and Barrera 126-130 were truly special fighters.
Both would give him a fight, they are better overall fighters than any fighter than floyd has ever fought, I think the natural size plays a part here, Morales & Barrera for a short spell were very good SFWs but there best days were at SBW & FW, I think fmj outpoints both but has much more difficulty with Morales stylewise, I think Barrera would try to box too much & just get outboxed all night long from distance. Morales is a better outside boxer than Barrera, better foot movement, he also has the reach & jab to compete with floyd, he`ll also switch to `war mode` if the boxing isn`t working too well for him, I think floyd will have trouble with Morales ability to continually switch between both styles & his relentlessness in pushing the fight. mayweather UD12 Barrera (9-3) mayweather UD12 Morales (7-5)
I agree fmj beats both but saying neither would have won a round ? get a grip. Also... why pick out both mens worst career performances, I could switch things and say Morales & Barrera were superior fighters to Castillo & Cotto... I wouldn`t be lying. Morales & Barrera were ATG fighters, no way fmj has an easy time with either. Ps. the Raheem fight was at 135 & the Junior Jones fights were at 122... glad to help
