BREAKING NEWS: BARRERA QUITS GOLDEN BOY GROUP

Los Angeles, CA: - We just got word from a reliable source that Marco Antonio Barrera has terminated his association with the Golden Boy Promotions.

Barrera who is in Los Angeles with his brother George called my source to inform him of the issue. They met at the Grand Wilshire Hotel near downtown Los Angeles.

According to the source, Barrera was not too happy of the fact that he has not been given a fight since losing to Manny Pacquiao. Although no further details was mentioned by Barrera, he indicated that a press con may be called tomorrow announcing the break and the signing of the formal severance of his relationship with Golden Boy.

Barrera according to the information given to this writer also spoke to Manny Pacquiao via phone regarding the possibility of doing a co-promotion with the MP Promotions fitting Mexican boxers who are under Barrera’s promotion group and Filipino boxers.

Barrera wanted to do the co-promotion in the Philippines since he feels it will be easier to get Philippine visas than US visas for his fighters. Barrera apparently has many boxers from 108 to 126 lbs. Certainly, finding Filipinos boxers within those weight classes would not be too problematic for Pacquiao and his group.

Barrera requested an appointment to meet Pacquiao when the Pacman comes to Las Vegas in two weeks to finalize his fight with Edwin Valero and watch the Cotto-Margarito tiff. In that fight Pacquiao will also have an opportunity to see two of his protégés who are on the undercard, Bernabe Concepcion and Vernie Torres.

At Las Vegas, Barrera wanted to lay down the cards to Pacquiao and discuss the possible partnership to hold a Mexico vs. Philippines boxing card in the very near future.

    Welcome on board MAB!!!

I don't think he should fight again.

Last I saw, he had been sharing diet tips with Ricky Hatton. He was at least 11 stone - and don't see him being successful at lightweight, because he is pretty much shot.

I think what the article is saying is that MAB doesn't want to be a part of Golden Boy so he can promote his own fighters along with Pacquiao.

smart business move by MAB if you ask me. Learn a little on how things are done (wrong in the case of GBP) and then start your own promotion alongside someone else.

How sweet would it be to see golden boy knocked out as a promotional company?

Hell, even D Hopkins signed with top rank over golden boy.

Roy & Joe are promoting their fight themselves.

**** golden boy & them buying the Ring magazine!

Go away oscar, nobody want's you anymore, you're just bad for real boxing!

Can somebody explain to me why Golden Boy Promotions is bad for boxing. Ever since Del La Hoya began promoting, we've had better fights?

i think if barrera fights again it would be against half decent opponenets, not someone who could hurt him or knock him out.
